1. Introduction
1.1 Background Information
The exponential growth of data sources, as well as the need to obtain valuable information from huge volumes, paved the advent of the business analytics. Keim et al. (2008) defined business analytics (BA) as an application of multiple analytic methods that address the big data diversity (structured and unstructured) to generate estimative results and to yield actionable descriptive and predictive results. It uses the technique of data visualization as well as predictive modelling tools to produce analysis and algorithms that enable businesses to make an informed decision (Van, Arnold and Campbell, 2012). In general, it can be concluded that business analytics is a data analysis the values the data type such as the machine learning for data in computer science. Business analytics has the great impact on the business information technology handling by enriching information for decision makers as well as automating business process (Holsapple, Lee-Post and Pakath, 2014). However, to explore the opportunities and barriers in business information systems, the study will present an in-depth analysis of the existing literature on the breakthrough as well as obstacles in BA, with appropriate recommendations.
1.2 Purpose
Historically, the advancement if the information system in the organization has been considered a crucial aspect toward the success of the business. This research will explore more on the improvement of Business Analytics (BA), and how it has brought powerful instruments to the performance management as well as strategic planning systems (Schläfke, Silvi and Möller, 2012). The research will also examine the analytical tools that offer algorithms to perform analytical operations such as Decision Support Systems (DSS), Expert System (ES), as well as Data Mining Systems (DMS). The study will also find out how these tools provide valuable support to the strategic planning and performance management of the business.
1.3 Scope
The research will primarily focus on the how business analytics is carried out in the electronic commerce sector. The research will also expound more on the why business analytics is critical in the business. The information technology experts will be needed to explain the challenges faced when carrying out business analytics. Nevertheless, the study will not dwell deep on the information system development and design processes in the organization.
2. Discussion
2.1 Approach
The proposed research report on the use of business analytics techniques in the organization shall begin with and overview of the business analytics and the analytical tools. The importance of business analytics in the business will follow. Thirdly, is the application of the analytics tools in the business as well as their role and benefits? Finally, the report will evaluate the challenges faced when trying to implement efficient business analytics process in the organization.
2.2 Results
The study results shall involve the report and presentation of different approaches on how business analytics improves the performance of the organization as well as the analytical tools used to implement the technique. The result section will also include the skills require to perform business analytics and the risk involved with the implementation process. Finally, the report shall evaluate the activities required when carrying out BA process.
2.3 Statement of Work
3. Resources
The public libraries will perform a critical role in the research; they will assist in availing the important books and journals that have more information about business analytics and the analytical tools. Again online sources will be of great importance; the sources will grant access to literature reviews as well as online materials that explore more about business analytics. Again my personal computer, as well as the external hard disc, will also assist in the storage as well as backup of the research data.
4. Time and Fiscal
It will take 48 hours to complete the proposed research report. The expenses involved in the research process include the internet charges, library services fees as well as printing services. The overall cost of the research process is estimated at $1870.
5. Conclusion
5.1 Summary
Following the Information Communication Technology (ICT) department, this proposal plays a critical role in the assessment of the performance of the information systems in the business sector as well as the associated benefits. The research will cover the implementation of business analytics process as well as its application in the analysis of big data in the organization. The research shall also expound on the use of the analytical tools and their application in ensuring effective business analytics. Moreover, the study will cover the steps of carrying out business analytics on the big data and the associated challenges. Finally, the study will include the application areas of business analytics as well as necessary organisational preparation for carrying out business analytics.
