The art project I have chosen for my image is ‘the absurd’. This choice arises from the ability of drawings to communicate, or present hidden messages. Absurd images are hard to understand and find use where the artist intends to communicate to a limited group of people with sufficient background to certain information.
The image I have chosen for this project falls under the category of absurd. The image employs a good use of colors, depth and shapes, without achieving a straightforward interpretation by a lay observer. I utilized various drawing skills to create the ambiguous image. The use of lines draws the attention of the viewer to the centre of the image where a semblance of a face interferes with the harmonious, perpendicular flow of colors and lines. The perpendicular lines and colors indicate the height; it is not clear what the height represents, but it is related to the feature at the focal point of the image, which looks like a face. The use of the colors white and black represent a duality indicating that the subject of the image can access both extremes. The contrasting nature of the colors white and black add to the mystery surrounding the image.
Additionally, I used tapering lines to indicate the illusion of perspective. The image appears to be in a three dimension setting which adds to the depth in meaning. The lines representing the wall taper to indicate depth. This depth represents a sign that there is more to the image than its lay observation. The face representation is without emotion. This effect arises out of the use of geometric shapes, and straight lines that represent rigidity. The absence of curves in this image rids it of all sensuality, giving it an unpredictable stance. The lack of emotion in this image adds to its mystery as to its intent.
In conclusion, the color white is more prominent than black. This prominence adds some warmth to the image. To a general observer, the image represents an absurd possibly meaningless piece of art. The image however, remains open to multiple interpretations depending on the person interacting with it
