According to the two videos, about 42% of junior female athletes competing in aesthetic sports such as gymnastics suffer from eating disorder. Further, they show that more than 11 million people in America have an eating disorder (Gslayen). Primarily, from the videos, it can be observed that most of the people who suffer from eating disorder are in some form of a weight management plan. In as much as the female athletes in the aesthetics are more affected by this condition, male athletes are also affected as well. The videos state that about 33% of the male athletes in these sports suffer from the condition. In this regard, one learns that the average age of starting to experience an eating disorder is seventeen.
In essence, the videos are insightful as they show the real effects of eating disorders. They also present testimonies from people who have experienced the problem (Griffith). For this reason, viewers get adequate information concerning eating disorder. The knowledge could be used to prevent eating disorders among individuals.
It is worth mentioning that several people have experienced eating disorders in the past but were able to overcome it. However, it took heavy therapy and counseling because they believed that having a lighter weight would make one more attractive. It is important for the relevant authorities to get involved and conduct campaigns to counter the belief that abnormal eating would lead to better body shapes. The media and the communities, including schools and representatives, need to take up the issue and tackle it before more people get affected.
