VALUES
Everyone has a different role model so there is no particular definition to characterize one. People cherish and appreciate distinctive role models and may find theirs in teachers, celebrities, philanthropists, relatives, friends, etc. However, it needs to be mentioned that a role model needs not to be perfect. He is the one individual who motivates, inspires, and encourages you; both directly and indirectly. A role model makes goodness and success attainment believable and achievable. This person makes it possible for you to consider and accept the goodness and integrity of humanity. As far as I am concerned, I consider my dad as my role model whose conduct and attitude has always been a source of inspiration for me. My father is an extraordinary gentleman who has taught me extremely valuable life lessons that have ultimately facilitated me in figuring out who I am and what I want to be, how to be independent and responsible, and how to respect others to earn respect.
When I reminisce about my childhood, I remember how my always made sure that I behave in a certain disciplined and respectful way towards others especially elders. In fact, my family is excessively concerned about the significance of giving and receiving respect. For the same reason, my siblings and I were taught to show respect and appreciation for the elderly. For example, my father always asked us to let the elderly take our turn in the checkout queue (even when we were the first in the line) whenever we went to the supermarket or some other crowded place. In this manner, he let us learn that elders need to be respected. At the same time, he also made me value myself and my dignity. His words: “If you want to be respected, you have to respect yourself first and then others as well” are inscribed in my mind. Thus, the demonstration of respect for others and for one’s own self is a remarkably serious and non-negotiable attribute in my family, particularly for my father.
Second, one of the most important values I have gained from my dad is the significance of having dreams and goals in life. He has actually been a mentor to me who has made me learn the importance of having a clear vision for my future. Unlike many fathers, my dad has been actively involved in his children’s education and advising them about the roles they may pursue in the future. He has guided me throughout my academic journey and how to be an articulate and inquisitive student. I must mention that my father is the principal figure who has made me take my academic path very seriously. This value has been considerably important for me as I have seen a lot of people of my age (including my friends and cousins) who do not know what they want do with their lives. On the other hand, ever since I graduated from middle school, I always had a clear idea of what kind of subjects I’m interested in. My dad and I would always have serious discussions about my future and goals. Whenever I share my insecurities and uncertainties with him, he says, “That is ok. Just make sure when you choose, you choose something you’re passionate about. Something you love and enjoy doing.” Due to his guidance, I have become capable of dreaming and setting certain personal, academic, social, and professional goals to achieve in my life. This is because I have my father by my side every day helping me understand what and who I want to be in the future.
Moreover, my father has always stressed on the importance of admitting one’s mistake and taking responsibility for all actions. Therefore, he has been always keen to make his children learn the virtue of admitting mistakes as it is the right way to learn. For most of the people, making mistakes is not a big deal. People are not infallible as they make mistakes all the time. However, it is a shame to refuse them stubbornly and blame others instead. I remember how we were always instructed by our fathers to remain honest if we ever committed a mistake. He made sure that none of his children speak lie and would reward us if we admitted our mistakes. This is the reason I am always keen to be truthful in admitting my mistake realizing that it is the first step to succeed.
My father is undoubtedly the most important person in my life. I consider myself an extremely blessed individual who shares a strong bond with my dad. Not only he is a good-looking man; he is a good-hearted gentleman too who loves and cares for his family making sure that he inculcates good values in his children. I also admire him because of his dedication towards his job. I have him as a living example and every passing day makes me realize the significance of honesty, determination, and compassion just by looking at him. In the contemporary times, it is rather difficult for the breadwinners of the family to take some time out for their families due to the constant work.
