Different cultural population that includes Muslims, Christians and the Jews inhabited the Palestinians land. Muslims were approximately 86%; Christians were 10% and Jews were 4% in the population. These communities had lived in peace for a long period until the rise of Zionism. In 1800s, a European group decided to colonize this land with the objective of creating a Jewish community. Increased Jewish migration from Europe to the Palestinian land increased when Hitler rose into power. Zionist increased migration to Palestine raised alarm to the indigenous population of Palestinians an event that led to conflict and genesis of war between the Jews and Palestinians. Jews overpowered the Palestinians and managed to own and settle in the better part of Israel former Palestinian land displacing Palestinians and enslaving them.
The cold war is a term that is used to describe the relationship between the United States and the Soviet Union or USSR. There was no direct war between the two antagonists, but there was tension that made each side prepare for war against each other just in case it occurred. The antagonism between the two super powers made each side support the enemy of the other while avoiding a direct clash with each other.
The Iraq war claimed lives of the Americans with an estimated number of 4,488, while 32,222 were wounded and 2 went missing. According to the Iraq family survey with the World Health Organization, the estimated deaths as per January 9th, 2008 were 151000 since March 2003. The deaths were violence-related. In 2006 alone the United Nations reported that there were 34452 deaths across Iraq. Up to date the United States has spent $815.8 billion in the Iraq war. That allocation includes $3.2 billion for 2014 fiscal year.
There has been criticism on whether the US war against Iraq was due to the national security threats, war on terrorism, failure to comply with the requirements of the United Nations weapon inspection, the weapons of massive destruction (WMD) or due to violation of Iraq human rights ( McGoldrick, 54). Many people have argued that the war was motivated by selfish reasons of the United States since it wanted to control the Iraq oil industry. Powerful and influential politicians of the United States including the government itself had heavily invested in the oil industry and therefore wanted to control it. The United States could not risk resistance of oil control from the Iraq government and that’s why United States faked justification on the Iraq war.
Iraq war is connected to the Arab spring uprising that has been experienced in Middle East and other regions of the Northern Africa. Saddam Hussein was perceived to be brutal and a leader who cared less about the rights of other Arabs. Due to his inhuman and cruel nature, Iraq citizens requested for international support from America that resulted to his removal from power and later to his death. After the death of Saddam Hussein, there have been wars and protests in Arab nations against poor or oppressive governance of their leaders. The aftermath of Saddam Hussein’s death seems like an empowerment and realization of the Arabs community that they can remove brutal and bad leaders from governance.
