The cow became one of the idols in Africa. Africans generally learned to appreciate and adore the cow. The Dinka, in a show of their love for the cow, have designed four hundred different names used to refer to the cow. The Maasai of Kenya are exceptions to idolizing the cow and their love for the cow. This has led them to believing that the cow was given to them by the gods, and on that basis they are true and dear to the cow. It is considered to them a blessing to herd and keep more herds of cattle as one’s richness is measured by the herd of cattle he has. The Zulu also are no exceptions to the love for the cow. These genetic changes in the lactase gene could also point out a factor about human evolution history, as the human evolution could be looked at from the point of milk tolerance in human population. Lactase persistence could be described as the ability of the human body to continuously produce lactase gene throughout an individual’s life.
According to (Tishkoff and Andy Clark, 1997), they begun a study on whether they could trace the genetic origin and generally the history of lactase persistence. This was to take place by the help of studying the DNA of Africa’s cattle headers. According to Tishkoof and Reed (2002), they concluded that lactase persistence had one of the strongest signatures, of positive selections ever observed in the human genome mutation that favor malaria resistance, such as the sickle cell gene and an inability to make the enzyme glucose 6-phosphate hydrogenate or G6PD are strongly favored and spread rapidly. This could be useful in explaining why the Homo naenderthalensis was an extinct human species living in western Asia and Europe.
If the population stopped drinking milk due to the increased availability of other foods, there are various reactions that would take place. Milk is a food and rich in nutrients. If by any chance human beings stopped drinking milk, they would not get the benefit of the nutrients available in the milk product from the cow.
Businesses involved in selling milk will have a directly impact on the resolution by human beings deciding not to drink milk. This will impact on their returns and affect their business in general. It will lead to closure of very many businesses and lose of the living livelihood of very many individuals all over the world.
In summary, lactose tolerance could lead to the individual not being able to digest the milk that contains lactose. This makes individuals shift their tastes and preference and begin digesting other substitutes like soya milk; others go for protein supplements from medicines and other products. With humans deciding not to drink milk, the demand for these substitutes for the lactose tolerant people will go up.
