Question 1
In the recent past, terrorist activities have been on the rise. The greatest contribution to the terrorist activities is the domestic terrorists who unite with the international terrorists to commit crimes. There has been a rise in domestic terrorists because of such as racial supremacists and racial hate groups (Norwitz, 2009). The domestic terrorists’ activities escalated in the 1980s. Domestic terrorists are usually organized into paramilitary groups that follow a specific military style. With the help of the international terrorists, they convert weapons to fully automatic firearms.
The international and the domestic terrorist usually target the government that includes the representatives of the courts, law enforcement personnel such as FBI’s and big government buildings. Their target is to destroy a nation. For instance, in the recent past, a group of nine domestic and international terrorists were charged in Michigan (Norwitz, 2009). They attempted to use weapons of mass destruction and attack the law enforcement department in the country.
Question 2
In the United States of America, domestic violence rose in 1860’s as a result of the Ku Klux Klan. Terrorists could not easily cooperate because of lack of proper communication. Introducing other terrorists to join the terrorist activities was not easy (Purpura, 2007). However, with the introduction of World Wide Web, recruiting new members has been made easy. The terrorists use the internet to spread their beliefs. They easily share information through the chat rooms and online message boards.
Through the use of the internet they can recruit, spread attacks, and coordinate attacks. Terrorists’ websites have been used as virtual training grounds. For instance, they offer training on building bombs, shooting the military soldiers, among others (Purpura, 2007). The authorities should be authorized to monitor the web activities in order to maintain peace and security in the nation. However, they should not go to the extent of obtaining a person’s personal information because everyone is entitled to privacy.
Question 3
Some of the domestic terrorists rely on the criminal activities to conduct some of their operations. Through the use of people in institutions, they can easily attack the nation. They obtain some of the information from people who have white collar jobs. Through tax evasion and money laundering, the criminals can get their financial means to conduct the terrorists’ activities (Duncan, Jancar & Swirky, 2009). The criminal activities are always geared towards collecting money to perform the terrorists’ activities.
They may be engaged in activities such as smuggling funds in the international banks without leaving any transaction traces. Drug abuse and selling of drugs is also an issue that has impacted on the domestic terrorists (Duncan, Jancar & Swirky, 2009). They can traffic drugs from one country to another hence obtaining enough money to conduct the domestic terrorists’ activities.
Question 4
There is a difference between the international terrorists activates and the domestic terrorists activities (Tiefenbrun, 2010). The international terrorists activities are those that violet the state laws. They intend to affect the conduct of the government by assassination, mass destruction of the important assets, and kidnapping. Primarily, they are organized outside the territorial jurisdiction.
On the other hand, domestic terrorist perform the same activities as the international terrorists. However, all the activities are conducted within the territorial jurisdiction. The domestic terrorism is a greater threat to United States because those who conduct the operations are civilians, and they can easily obtain the secrets of their nation. It is not easy also for the military to trace them (Tiefenbrun, 2010).
