Good Example Of Essay On Aging In Renaissance And Early Modern Art

The most interesting thing about aging in Renaissance art is there were those who viewed aging as a normal part of life and should be treated with reverence instead of disdain as artists such as Rembrandt chose to depict the elderly in their natural state. While Rembrandt decided to do this in a respectful way, however, many of the Renaissance masters took a more scientific approach as they examined the effects of aging on the human face. In other words the Renaissance period provided artists the opportunity to decide how they wanted to illustrate how a human being aged past their prime in contrast to before this period when most painters and sculptors were expected to focus their subjects on younger, healthier looking people in an attempt to ignore the uglier aspects of the human body which would be explored in the Renaissance era and beyond.
The various interpretations of aging in art would be further explored by artists in the Early Modern period as some artists interpreted the natural process as beautiful while others took a more calculative approach. In the end both of these movements proved that the subject of aging was no longer taboo as people were free to examine its aspects particularly in the face for back then most of the body was covered in layer upon layer of clothing. Put more simply, it was the Renaissance era which began the ideology that people could study any subject they wanted to instead of having to depend on priests and witch doctors who used false science to convey so-called facts that were based off of outdated theories in desperate need of an upgrade.
