Introduction
-Aristotle (384-382 B.C.)
The purpose of my college application is for me to learn everything that I must learn in order for me to get ready with life. With today’s fierce competition, getting a job without a college degree will certainly make the job hunting hard for me in the future. Aside from this, I desire to know more than what I can and I know that college can help me fulfill that deep consummating hunger in myself. When I first studied high school, I have already set my goals high and have myself focus to one thing that matters to me, a college education. Compared to high school, students on the college have a much advantage in learning and there are many opportunities for growth. High school learning is only the foundation of further stage of studying; this means that even though I have studied high school, there are still areas of disciplines that I have wanted to take. In addition, college education will be my stepping-stone in achieving those unfulfilled dreams, dreams that are waiting for me after I finish college. There might be difficulties ahead but I am not afraid to take the risk nor my desire for further learning decreases. I want to be a competitive and innovator of this country and therefore for that to happen I have to finish my college first.
The Purpose of Education: My Reasons in Applying for a College Degree
In today’s fast-paced world, it is necessary for every person to go with the flow of the things. New technological breakthroughs are been created that made man’s life comfortable. However alongside with the innovations, the burgeoning need of staying in pace and the survival of the fittest is the only chance for a student’s survival in the real world. Compared to high school, students learn only the basics of knowledge whilst in college they learn not only those knowledge but also students will have more room for personal growth and with the many fields of study, a student can choose a course which matches his/her interest.
My primary motivation for further learning is to improve myself. I want to add more knowledge to what I currently have and at the same time I want to test if that knowledge is effective or not. Second motivation is my family and friends who believe in my capability in surviving until the last terms of college. Without them, I will not be the person that I am now. Their beliefs and wisdom shaped my deeper understanding of the things that I needed to know and the hunger for further learning on everything. The third motivation I got was when I have read the story of Jack Kilby, the innovator of the computer microchip. Kilby was a poor boy back then; he had neither shoes nor proper dress. People are always laughing at him because of his appearance but he always ignores the bluff and the ridicule of the society. Jack was a poor boy but he has a brilliant mind. His passion for innovation made his father decide to send him to college for the proper learning. By the time Jack was a middle-aged man, he collaborated with Robert Noyce to develop a certain device made out of silicon ‘chip’, which can be used to substitute the large valves used by the earlier versions of the computer. Because of perseverance and the knowledge they both had, Jack and Robert was able to develop the computer microchip, After I have read his story, something stirred deep inside me, something powerful and beyond explanation. I was thoroughly inspired because of Kilby’s story because he did not give up his education. His determination and success fueled my desire to continue my learning and to use that knowledge to help other people and the society. In the future, I wanted to become a successful person and valued by the society. I wanted to help other people in all the ways I can because of the knowledge that I will learn from the institution.
I want to follow what my parents have taught me, I want to live using their principles and my own. Success is the primary thing that drives my determination. I want to succeed because it will enable me to help my family and for me to stay atop the ladder of life. My plans are to finish the course of personal choice because I am the first generation to enter the college in my family. Going to college is fun and it is for my personal satisfaction of obtaining a degree from a respectable institution. Moreover, a quote from Andrew Shue who is an American actor known for his character as Billy Campbell on the TV series Melrose Place. His beautiful quote describes the purpose on why should every people must go to college.
“Life is the most exciting opportunity we have. But we have one shot. You graduate from college once, and that's it. You're going out of that nest. And you have to find that courage that's deep, deep, deep in there. Every step of the way.”
