After analysis of these 5 movies I totally agree with the main plot of movies and judgment made in them. At least 4 movies are very similar: An Inconvenient Truth, Supersize me, Bowling for Columbine and Who Killed The Electric Car. The main problem in all this films is the unwillingness of government to lose control over society and undesirability of business to lose millions of dollars. Over the decades mankind has formed numerous problems. Global warming, climate changes, adiposity, health problems, inefficient using of electricity, shooting in schools, illegal arms trade and many others. I am deeply convinced that most of these problems are artificially created by the governments of well-being countries such as USA, UK, German and so on. But talk about USA, cause these movies disclose problems mostly in this country. For most people US is one of the most developed country on the Earth. There are dozens of benefits for living, lovely nature, friendly people. But it’s only the one side of coin. The other side is not so happy. According to Caroline Westbrook (2004), America is the world leader in obesity. Why?
Everything is simple. There are thousands of fast food cafes that offer vast range of food that usually is not healthy. The movie “Supersize me” show us how only in 30 days health man harmed his health by eating only three McDonald's meals every day: breakfast, lunch, and dinner and no other food. Also he had to Super-Size the meal when offered, but only when offered. Only after 5 days the main character of documentary had gained 9.5 pounds (4.5 kg). At the end of experiments he gained more than 10 kg and felled awful. The movie had proved that fast food meals causing illness and addiction. So do the governments want their citizen expressing such negative sides of fast food industry? Probably yes, because no McDonald’s was closed, conversely each year opened more and more. No one wants to lose profit, especially when we talk about fast food industry that brings every year thousands of millions of dollars. This problem relates not only to US but to almost every country. The same situation we see with the movie “Who Killed The Electric Car”. Giant corporation General Motors simply killed the manufacturing of electric car EV1. They just said there was no consumer demand for these cars.
What is the matter, you ask? Everything is simple, the oil companies were afraid of losing their monopoly on transportation fuel over the coming decades.
While the auto companies feared short term costs for EV development and long term revenue loss because EV’s require little maintenance and no tune-ups. Similar problems discovered in the movie “An Inconvenient Truth”. We see that politics debate about global warming, climate changes only in the election races. But actually they do nothing to reduce bad air emissions, reduce carbon dioxide emissions, and use environment protective equipment at factories. The reason why they do that is simple business and money. Among the years shooting in schools occurred very often. So where do children take guns? The massive problem for US it’s illegal armor trade. So, the film “Bowling for Columbine” talks us the main causes for the Columbine High School massacre in 1999 after which 15 people were killed and other acts of violence with guns. The film also looks into the nature of violence in the United States.
The director of film doesn’t trust the government theory which blames the rock musicians, youth subcultures, violent movies and video games in so high degree of violence in US. He claimed that the level of armed violence caused primarily from pumping into American society atmosphere of fear that distracts people from the real issues - social and political - and provokes distrust and hatred for each other. I deeply trust director’s opinion, government should control the arms trade and not to enrich themselves by defending the interests of weapons black market. And the last movie “A Norma Life” is a bit different from 4 others. Here we see how a suburban Chicago cop struggle with all the difficulties in his life. But like in 4 other movies this film discovered real problems of US society. And government should solve it without any delay. So, to sum it up, I can say that like any other countries, USA has dozens of unsolved problems which requiring immediate solution. The members of the government are only the managers that people employ. Their primarily task is to create such conditions where people can easily live and develop. All of us should realize it and remind it every time when something going wrong in our society.
