Every person has particular characteristics and qualities. An educated person obtains particular knowledge and knows how to use it effectively. The core quality of an educated person is the “sense that that person has learned how to engage in the dynamic between established knowledge and critical inquiry” (Bereiter & Scaamalia, 2012). An educated person is able to find an intrinsic value of the things and has wide interests. Intellectual growth is an integral part of the educational process. Besides, an educated person has intellectual creativity, and can play with the ideas by offering different possibilities.
Education impacts future job, well-being and life of every person. Besides, it has a direct impact on the social environment of the person. It is important for every person to create a good basis for the intellectual in order to get useful connections and effective development in a healthy environment. In this paper, we are going to provide the main characteristics of the educated person with on the basis of previously conducted investigations.
It is considered that an educated person differs considerably from the person without education. First of all, it is important to mention that an educated person is not just the one who obtained a diploma, and not the one who possesses the knowledge. An educated person knows how to use this information beneficially and effectively. Thus, it is not enough just to obtain the information; you also need to understand the principles of its organization and application.
“The educated person has cognitive perspective” (Martin, 1981). If a person has a reliable basis, he/she will be able to use the obtained knowledge in practice; otherwise, knowledge has no sense (Martin, 1981). An educated person is not the one who learns poems by heart; it is the one who may beneficially use the words from the poem in a real life.
There are a lot of smart people with good memory, but we cannot say that they are educated if they do not know how to use their knowledge, how to apply and get some profit out of it (Martin, 1981). Thus, we may suggest that it is not enough to get an education and to have a diploma. The most important thing is to learn how to use all the useful things that were provided in the educational institutions.
The next characteristic of an educated person is a social activity. It is vital for any person to know how to communicate in a right way (Bereiter & Scardamalia, 2012). There are substantial reasons to believe in this suggestion and to consider that an educated person is the one who can share knowledge (Marelisa, 2013). The process of development includes a constant exchange of information during the process of communication. Effective communication is a vital part of self-realization. First of all, an educated person is the person who achieved the “self-realization” through the effective use of the obtained knowledge. An educated person can persuade the opponent, can present the information in such a way that everybody would believe in the correctness of his/her words. Constant development, informational exchange, and sharing knowledge are the core abilities of the educated person.
We came to the strong conclusion that an educated person is not the one who obtained knowledge and education, but who knows and understands how to use this information, how to get benefit out of it, how to share it with other people, and get information from them. A constant informational exchange is a foundation of the successful development and self-realization of every person in the present society.
