China is one of the world’s greatest economies. It has experienced tremendous economic growth in the recent past with its industries gaining wider global market for their products. The interaction between China and the rest of the world has also increased, creating interactions between the Chinese and other cultures. The paper will look at China today; assessing the living condition, healthcare, recreation activities and fashion.
The living conditions in China present a high contrast between the rural areas and the urban centers. According to Cook, there is a ‘dual structure’ in China, where the urban centers have been well developed while the villages languish in poverty and poor living condition (Cook). The urban centers have good infrastructure access to amenities, good schools, internet and modern housing; while the rural areas are lacking in basic infrastructure, lack of transport systems, traditional housing poor schools and limited access to internet (Cook, n.p). Many in the rural areas cannot access basic food supply. The living condition in China is therefore varies according to location.
According to a research done by the Netherlands Embassy, the Chinese fashion market has shown exponential growth, tripling in the last decade (Netherlands Embassy). Social media and e-commerce have also revolutionized the way fashion is marketed and sold, adding to the growth of the industry. China is the biggest large scale fashion market in world (Netherlands Embassy). Different major cities have their own styles, with trends ranging from traditional to modern pop-culture.
Healthcare in China is advanced, featuring modern medicine as much as traditional medicine. Traditional medicine from China is popular in many areas of the world. There are various sporting and recreation activities including board games, kite lying, ping pong games, wrestling sports like Ta Chi Chuan, and modern games like soccer.
