The elderly populations at Senior care centers are of major concern to me. There are about 50 care centers within the Covington area. They form my target population of choice due to the fact that most of them are frail and sickly and abandoned in the centers by their families. A majority of the elderly suffer from different kinds of diseases like dementia, Alzheimer's, diabetes and other diseases which coupled with their frailty require special care. Most of the elderly in the senior care centers have been abandoned by their families who cannot or do not want to care for them. A holistic kind of care would ensure that the elderly are not only treated if they are ailing but they also have people who can help them with daily menial tasks like dressing, bathing and taking their medicine (Bair, 2017). This would be done through adequate education on advanced care planning for the elderly (CDC 2010).
The other aggregate population is my community which comprises of the population of Covington, New County located in the North East of Atlanta, Georgia. The community has a population of about 99,958 (United States Census Bureau, 2010) comprising of diverse ethnic groups, age sets, and other differences. This community is my target population due to the concerning trends in alcoholism that have long plagued the area. The younger, as well as older, generation are in the habit of excessively indulging in the past time which leads to drunken driving, accidents, deaths, alcoholism, poverty, crime and other vices. Community initiatives to curb alcoholism provide education as to its effects as well as rehabilitation and care for those addicted and affected by alcoholism. The community members are willing to help curb the addiction but lack a framework for which they can be of assistance to those addicted. Hence, coming up with a framework or a plan for which the community can come together and share ideas on how to help curb alcoholism would be of great help to the Covington community and those affected would be able to change their lives for the better.
