Christianity and Physical Fitness
Christianity generally reveres John 3: 16 to be the most important scripture that guides Christian life because it assures believers about the existence of eternal life. Since God desired that man becomes a physical being by giving him food and labor according to Genesis 1:28-31; it is imperative that I also build on that to make my physical disposition in good shape. Exercise and training indeed prepare the physical body of a Christian for eternal life. This is because; training enables a person to preserve well the temple of God such that it can exist in this state even in life after death. This paper seeks to give an account of how I have carried out physical exercises to keep my body in line with the recommendations imputed in the biblical teachings.
I have always endeavored to handle my body in conformity with the Christian Teachings regarding the value of the human body and how it has to be preserved. A human body is the temple of God; a gift gratuitously given to me by the almighty. Therefore it is prudent to always subject it to the best treatment acceptable before the eyes of the Lord. In light of this, I always cherish physical exercise, general fitness and a good nutritional foundation. I perfectly know that the human body is capable of withstanding extreme levels of exercise because of the body trainable systems that constitute the neural and nervous faculties. For that reason, I do not shy away from stretching to the farthest limits of my flexibility. I am an ardent follower of my training routine which entails working out five days in a week. According to First Timothy 4:7b-8, a person ought to train themselves for godliness and this training includes physical exercise. However, while partaking in such physical activities, I am always cautious not to forget about God. That is why I always strike a balance between serving God and exercising.
It is the will of God that whatever gifts he extends to mankind are preserved well; utilized in the utmost and become productive in the aftermath. Failure to exercise or work out has the effect of causing foreseeable hypokinetic conditions that are even terminal. Therefore, Physical activity cannot be downplayed at any point in life. On top of the normal habitual training sessions, I also do Yoga at least three times a week just to keep fit and have my body as well as soul acceptable before the Lord. In addition to this, I play tennis once in a while at our local club and through stretching and straining; I can feel the hidden energies within my body system.
My schedule as explained above indicates that I am always busy from Monday to Monday because it is good stewardship for servants of God to be physically fit. In order to match the physical activity with the state of mind; I am very fond of meditating and reflecting on many issues affecting our society. This has greatly helped me to have a sharp memory and make a concise personal evaluation of my actions. As such, I believe that all persons should adopt such a tight physical fitness schedule so that they do not waste the inherent qualities and talents granted to the m by God as well as to generally avoid diseases that can be simply prevented through working out.
