Music is an inseparable part of human life. Nowadays, there are different kinds of music and every person can find something to one’s liking. This essay is aimed at comparing and contrasting two concerts: the pop music concert and Baroque era concert.
The first concert I have watched was the concert of Charmaine Clamor. Frankly speaking, I was not impressed much by the concert. However, I should admit that the atmosphere of the concert was interesting and inspiring. Although, it is pop music, it is much alike to jazz. The atmosphere in the club and the manner of singing of Charmaine Clamor is a jazz singer, which determines her dresses, song texts and the manner of signing. I must admit that Charmaine Clamor does not resemble popular jazz musicians. When she is singing, it seems that she has a time machine and listeners are back to the times of gangsters or the post was times when jazz concerts were popular among the white Americans.
The second concert I have watched is the concert for two violins in G minor by Antonio Lucio Vivaldi, performed by Croatian Baroque Ensemble. I cannot state that the Baroque concert impressed me much, but I liked it. I like classic music, and Antonio Vivaldi is the one whose music inspires me. Vivaldi’s music brings listeners back to the times of queens and kings, rich and famous, who danced at balls continuously. However, from the first sight, it seemed that the musicians are simply rehearsing, and somebody made a video. The stage is almost empty; the musicians’ clothes do not fit the music they play. When speaking about two concerts, I would say that watching the first concert was much pleasure to be, but listening to the second one I liked more.
Obviously, there is a big difference between the two concerts I have watched. First, they belong to different eras. Hence, they are aimed at different listeners. On the other hand, the similarity is that both Croatian Baroque Ensemble and Charmaine Clamor interpret the atmosphere of particular times. When speaking about the music itself, I must admit that the similarity between the two concerts is the live music: the musicians did not use any electronic device to perform. On the other hand, the difference is that the second concert consists only of music performing and not singing. On the contrary, Charmaine Clamor sings, which makes songs and lyrics the main component of a successful performance. The difference of roles of concerts is different between the Baroque era and modern times. First, nowadays every person is allowed to visit a concert. On the contrary, at the times of Vivaldi, only noble persons were allowed to listen to that music. I have already mentioned that lyrics and the voice of a singer plays a significant role in modern music. On the contrary, the music of Vivaldi is aimed at showing the beauty of music. When speaking about the Baroque era and the music of the modern age, it necessary to mention listeners. Three centuries ago, when the Baroque music era began to develop, it was performed in churches during a mess. However, later, the most famous composers were performing in nobles’ houses and on balls. Hence, as I have already mentioned, poor average people were not allowed to listen to it. Nowadays, every person is allowed to buy a ticket and attend a concert. However, the modern age is the era of internet. Nowadays, music is not as valuable as it was three centuries ago, in times of Vivaldi. The point is that now every person is able to download an album free of charge from the internet. Besides, it is possible to download a concert and watch it sitting on a coach in comfortable trousers, eating or drinking. When speaking about classical music, it is impossible to imagine someone eating or drinking in a conservatoire during a concert. Besides, a person should be dressed properly at every concert. People do not value music anymore. The affordability of music for every person makes us forget about the process of its creation and performing. The point is that we do not value what we have until we lose it.
This essay was aimed at comparing and contrasting two concerts. In my opinion, every music performance is significant and unique in its own manner. The uniqueness of Charmaine Clamor’s concert is that it is the example of classical jazz, as it was known several decades ago; the jazz at it’s beginning. On the other hand, the concert for two violins in G minor performed by Croatian Baroque Ensemble is the concert that brings a listener several centuries back, to the ages of kings and queens. The second part of the essay was aimed at presenting differences and similarities of both concerts. Obviously, they are totally different; the concerts belong to different eras. On the other hand, they are similar because they both are aimed at bringing happiness to people, satisfying their ears. Regardless, which concert one likes more, there is always a wide choice. The music is rather variable nowadays, and every person can find something to one’s liking. The problem is that we have forgotten how to value such treasures that we have. Nowadays, we prefer to download concerts from the internet and not visit them.
