Re: A letter of appeal for the consent of the Southern New Hampshire University
Kindly consider this correspondence as an appeal for the Scholastic Standing Committee’s decision to issue me an academic suspension. I would like to kindly request for the Committee to allow me to enroll in any program at the Southern New Hampshire University again so that I could continue my course schedule for fall 2016.
Despite having a GPA of 1.574, I was not successful in passing two of my academic subjects – Psychology and ENG099i. After contemplating on the possible causes of this failure, I have come to realize that there are two main reasons for failing the two courses. The first reason is language barrier. Both of these courses necessitated that I write different papers in the English language. My ENG099i, for example, required me to write at least one essay every day. This academic workload, combined with my difficulty in using the English language in both written and spoken forms, have resulted to my failure. Please note that I am an international student from Saudi Arabia and I was taught Arabic since childhood. I was not taught any other language as I grew up; hence, it was very difficult for me to master the English language; more so the special terms and jargons in my Psychology subject. The second major reason was my health. I was suffering from kidney stones for several months during the last semester. I have undergone treatment last April and I tried catching up with my academic schedule. Despite all my efforts to catch up, I was not successful.
Nevertheless, I am more confident now that I will be able to pass the two aforementioned subjects as well as the other courses indicated in my fall 2016 course schedule. I have recuperated totally from my health problem and I have asked my friends who are good in the English language to tutor me while I was away from the University. Moreover, I acknowledge that I will need more practice in understanding and using the English language to completely remove the language barrier in my education. Hence, my tutorial sessions with my friends will continue. I am also planning to enter some review and academic help programs that the University and some student organizations provide. This way, I will be able to learn more about the English language; primarily, by enriching my vocabulary.
I have always wanted to earn a degree at Southern New Hampshire University, become successful in life, and contribute to the progress of my country. I was overwhelmed with my previous semester’s academic load and my health failed me. Nevertheless, my failure has given me a stronger resolve to do my very best in the academics. I promise that I will not waste the opportunity that I am asking from the Scholastic Standing Committee. I promise to study harder, manage my time wisely, and use all the available resources that I have to pass and obtain high academic marks, not just in Psychology and ENG099i, but in all my subjects, as well.
I hope this letter sufficiently showed my resolve to finish my studies at the University. I hope that the Scholastic Standing Committee would hear my appeal and give me a chance to prove that I can pass the two subjects I failed. I am hoping for the committee’s favorable response. Kindly contact me at my email (put your email here) if more information is required from me and for any notification regarding my request.
Sincerely,
