There are many factors, which influence people`s maternal health. Some are connected with childhood or childbirth. There are many cases of women deaths, which died in childbirth or shortly after giving birth. Some people claim that culture and beliefs strongly have a great influence over childbirth practices. Some of those factors will be analyzed in this paper.
Having great historical heritage, Sri Lanka is a popular place to visit for both travelers and volunteers. People turn their attention to the population and try to help native people manage the issue of women deaths, which are the result of lack of health systems provided by free services (Saving Mothers’ Lives in Sri Lanka). Sri Lanka has a lot of support, including various successful maternal health programs, as it is not a place left behind. Being the center of buddism, Sri Lanka attracts people, who devote their lives to serving to deities. These individualities, as a rule, are open-hearted and seek to help everyone in the world.
People may form their impression based on my appearance – they can notice my habits and fields of occupation. Considering my having such a cultural background, it is obvious that my life is not of the simplest – I am hard-working and diligent. Turning attention of doctors and nurses to it, I am likely to receive a lot of care and be examined well for illnesses. I would like to tell doctor the true order of culture – yes, in Sri Lanka we have some problems, but we try to solve them with all our strength and aspiration. I would like to share the knowledge of beautiful places of my country, as they give emotional power for us to keep on our struggle for happy lives.
I would want a health promotion program to include some analyzes of potential illnesses in order for us to be acknowledged and be able to deal with it correctly. Having analyzed the issues raised by Carol Holtz (2013) it is obvious that the programs, where volunteers or doctors help us learn something new, are great opportunities for improving knowledge in various fields.
Nowadays people pay a lot of attention to culture considering it greatly influences health beliefs. Most health programs view these beliefs as barriers to proper treatment or, conversely, as stimulus for being treated well. I would like to help people use their beliefs as the power turned to improving their lives, not ruining them because of the deities` wishes. One should be fully responsible for his health and be provided with required care completely.
