PART 1: APPLICATION PLAN
Here are the aspects of analytical and problem-solving skills behaviors that am more interested in:
Problem-Solving Skills
Being wise
Use of analysis
Experience
Analytical Thinking
This is the ability to solve problems through a systematic, logical and sequential approach (Golen, 1990).
Carry out a systematic comparison using several alternatives
Identify inconsistencies and discrepancies using the available information
Identify a set of elements, considerations, and parameters to consider when making a decision or analyzing a situation
Consider the benefits, costs, chances for success and risks when making a decision
Decompose a complex problem into manageable parts (Whetten and Cameron, 2011)
Oral Communication
Oral skills refer to the ability to express clearly oneself in interactions and conversations with others (Crocker, 1978).
Ability to speak fluently and clearly in a manner that can be easily understood
Tailor the speech content to the level of the intended audience
Organize speech ideas clearly
Use correct choice of words and grammar in oral speech
Expresses concepts clearly in spoken word
Maintain eye contact when communicating
Skill application setting
I plan to take on supervisory roles at my place of work and in the church. For me to be considered a leader in the small groups, I have to demonstrate strong communication, analytical and problem-solving skills. This will be the beginning of shaping my leadership skills and behaviors. Am already positioning myself as a leader and believe that I have to start from somewhere. My place of work, class and church will be my starting point (Cupach and Spitzberg, 1994).
The behaviors I need to engage myself specifically in as learned by in the skills above
My Analytical and Problem Solving Skills, Behaviors
I will make use of a mixture of advanced tools and methods, logic, experience, wisdom, and extra resources to solve problems
Since I have the required educational background, I have the ability to solve difficult, complex and intractable problems
I am a creative person and am in a position to come up with innovative solutions
Before taking on any project or problem, I probe all appropriate sources, skillfully
My Communication Behaviors
On a regular basis, I donate some articles to friends’ blogs for information to the public which has been a plus in enhancing my communication abilities.
I am eloquent in English; I compose concise, clear and short messages
I also have the capacity to express myself to small groups, large ones and on a one-on-one basis
I eloquently and comfortably adapt to diverse and broad populations
I am also able to think faster and respond with finesse when required to give solutions to immediate challenges or questions
Indicators for Successful Performance
Analytical & Problem Solving Skills
The following Requirements Needs to be met:
Make use of combination of experience, logic, wisdom and different methods to solve problems
Probe the right sources to obtain the relevant information and provide answers to the main questions
Demonstrate skills in collecting information and persistence
Have in hand suggestions and solutions required for adequately addressing the current problems or situations
Attention is required when:
Not a real problem solver; was fixed to solve issues in the past, uses what worked earlier to solve current problems
When the person is a fire-ready-aim type
Is forced to come back and try to solve the problem once again
Communication
The following Requirements Needs to be met:
Write succinctly and clearly in a variety of communication styles and settings
Make use of correct grammar in both oral and written communication. Also, use the proper spelling in written communication
Can effectively pass the information in both written and verbal form
Attention is required when (Crocker, 1978):
Written and Oral Communications are disorganized and unorganized in most cases
Written and Oral Communications feature structural and grammatical errors
PART 2: EVALUATION PLAN
Results
It is not very easy making changes to your behaviors. But over time and with practice, one finds it much more comfortable taking on the leadership roles. Initially, I was finding difficulty communicating with several people. I also found it more difficult walking up to an older person and correcting them of their mistakes. After my course and training, this has changed in several aspects. I now know how to approach people, communicate effectively and solve problems. Even though am not still perfect at it, I believe with time and on working on my identified weak points, I will be able to be an expert analytical and problem solver and a perfect communicator (Golen, 1990).
How to Improve
Communication skills, analytical and problem solving is a vast subject area. There is a lot of advanced learning that I still need to do. First, I plan to take on a relevant course in the future to sharpen my skills in these areas. As a future manager, I believe communication and analytical skills will be a vital component of my productivity. Behaviors are mentored and acquired; I expect to work closely with my seniors and mentors to learn from their successes. (Cupach & Spitzberg, 1994).
Lessons learnt
Skill practice and application experiences have taught me the specific skills I need as an individual to be a successful manager. The lessons have particularly taught me how to manage different stress situations and how to cope with them.
Conclusion
The paper was about my personal development application part. In the paper, I have identified the skills and behaviors most relevant to my management practice. These included communication analytical and problem-solving skills. This paper has been essential in helping me identify my areas of weaknesses in communication, analytical and problem-solving skills. I hope the development application plan will guide in managing future big projects.
