The Freedom riders is a civil rights associated film produced in the Southern United States between May and December 1961. The film has a great focus on racial segregation theme that existed back then in America in terms of transport and accommodation of people. The film depicts the failure in the ruling elements in the year 1946 for case of Morgan and Virginia (Nelson 5). It also covers the reconciliation journey which followed in 1947 and the boycotts which erupted later in 1955 in the south.
If I was the parent, I would look the better good of the ride and ensure that the child had agreed with his/her own consent so as to agree on their involvement. The journey would bring unity in Southern and Northern states thus; it was a “worth the risk” situation. The parents considered facts such as constitutional law and the probability of other people following the set conditions, the security of the children and the outcome of the ride (Tisdale 35). In addition, since they were not guaranteed of the return of their children, the parents also considereda chance of losing their children but for the sake of the general unity and good of the public. It is a hard situation to think of but they must have been in that line while making the decision (Nelson 12).
Personally, I would have participated in the freedom rides. This is because the rides promoted a society where there would be freedom of movement in all the states without a fear of attack or discrimination. Considering situations such as segregation of the people due to colour, this would be a breakthrough towards creating a universal unity between the people. Getting in the buswould be a heroic and an outstanding move as this will be the stepping stone to global unity and living in harmony with all people irrespective of their races.
The journey was an initiative by Congress of Racial Equality to determine whether the ruling by the US Supreme Court had banned the segregation in the interstate buses travel and the reaction of the general citizens. The ride was important as it presented a sense of cohesion in the process of mixing people of different colours in the ride (Nelson 14). This presented a sense of love and accommodation in the involved party which was a directive to the general public. The ride was also imperative as it presented an image of places where the residents did not take the law lightly, since, they encountered violence in some of the states. The ride also presented a benchmark to determine whether the process of inclusion was well accepted by all the parties (Nelson 15).
In conclusion, the freedom riders embarked in a journey, which brought unity and inclusion among people in the United States through a ruling by Supreme Court. The journey was not taken lightly by all the parties as seen by the retaliation from other parties. However, it is seen to bring a general good to the people involved.
