Article Summary
Noh, Kim, Park, Kim and Kwon (2015) in their article “Gender Difference in Relationship between Health-Related Quality of Life and Work Status” discuss and analyze relationship between gender-wise employment status, and health related quality of life (HRQOL). Employment and health of family members are two major components of human life that are related with each other. During 20th century, participation of women in labor workforce has increased substantially, but very few studies analyzed impact of gender-wise employment status and HRQOL. Noh et al. (2015) analyzed the subject by conducting an empirical study on Korean population. The study utilized data collected under Korea Health Panel Survey for year 2009, 2010, and 2011. Sample sizes covered under the study are 14,570, 13526, and 12,803 for year 2009, 2010 and 2011 respectively (Noh et al., 2015).
Authors covered five dimensions of HRQOL i.e. anxiety or depression, self-care, person’s mobility, general activity and pain or disability. Covariates, considered in the article, are age groups, education status, marital status, alcohol drinking, chronic illnesses, and smoking. The article provides sufficient data and evidences to support a positive association between employment status and quality of life/ HRQOL. The articles also discusses how employment of men is more relevant to quality of life as compared to women (Noh et al., 2015).
