In this paperwork, I am going to discuss the duties and responsibilities, as a probation worker, which would challenge my level of motivation. The probation officer is responsible of developing a job plans, conducting temporary meetings, and yearly performances acts.
Literature review has it that the work of a probation worker is more demanding. It entails numerous duties and responsibilities that must be put into practice by the probation worker. According to my stand as a probation worker, my motivation would be lowered when I am expected to assists the district administration in handling practical case problems or being expected to manage the office in the absence of the supervisor. It is important to note that a probation worker has numerous duties and responsibilities to uphold; hence it would not be fair assigning the duties and responsibilities of the supervisor to him or her- probation worker. In case of an absence of the supervisor or when the district administration has more work to handle, it would be more appropriate to assign those responsibilities to employees who have fewer duties and responsibilities. According to Allison case, we find that Allison cannot keep the phone down, since the offenders can call at anytime, especially when seeking for permission to attend a significant job- an offender seeking for permission as a result of a curfew. The work of a probation officer, according to Allison, is depicted as being challenging, since you are expected to work for more hours as compared to other jobs- evening working is common for a probation officer. It is depicted that many employees are not willing to work for more hours; therefore, they are not motivated to apply for work as probation workers. I am too not different from them; therefore, long working hours would challenge my level of motivation as a probation officer. It is also the responsibility of a probation officer to come up with supervision schedule, whereby, he or she end up making sporadic visitations or cellular phone links to the homes, families, or treatment agencies, hence making the role of a probation officer more demanding. It is important to note that the probation officers are expected to fill the gaps that are left as a result of limited police department staffing, thereby, overworking them-the probation officers. From the reading, it is depicted that some people make early visits to see the probation officers, so as to make at work on time, but according to my stand; this practice, early visits, challenges my level of motivation, since I am left with minimal time for solitude. It sometime becomes essential to carry out urinalysis screens on criminals- more time demanded by this approach, hence delaying other duties and responsibilities that I have to fulfill as a probation officer (The human service professional, chapter 6).
Not all is dreadful since some duties and responsibilities are inspiring, such as enlightening the communities through the implementation of programs that can help a person live a moral life. It, therefore, becomes our obligations as probation officers to give talks to civic groups and institutes with information about trial and parole. As a probation officer, I feel more motivated when creating a world that is both safe and sound for everyone; regardless of his or her background. The uses of electronic screening equipments and a personal computer too help in reducing the work, since I do not have to go to the offenders’ place of residence. It is also important to note that the duties and responsibilities of a probation officer are more demanded, thereby, resulting to a higher salary at the end of the day (The human service professional, chapter 6).
