According to the article, treatment of poisoned patients in a poison center is much cheaper as compared to poisoned patient treated in the hospital. Furthermore the patients treated in the poison centers takes shorter time to recover. The study compared the data obtained from Illinois Poison Center and data from the Illinois Hospital Association, and the results show that for every 10 patients treated in Poison centers there is a decrease in hospital charges by $2078 and the length of stay for poisoned patients was .058 days shorter. Notwithstanding the study finding that poison centers have shown to reduce the cost of hospitalization, Poison centers have been receiving insufficient funding from the government, non-governmental organization and donators which have lead many poison centers to minimize or stop their operations completely.

With unpopularity of the pre-exposure to HIV microbicides gel due to its interference with the sexual practices the scientist at the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, have came up with a vaginal microbicide gel that is used hours after exposure to the HIV virus. The gel acts by stopping the virus' DNA from entering the DNA of animal cells. The tests conducted on monkeys showed a that the gel prevented female monkeys from get HIV when applied within the 3 hours after exposure to the HIV. However the gel’s effectiveness needs to be improved before using it in humans. This research would open way for further researches on better ways of preventing and control HIV infections.
