In the world there are a lot of varied things which are considered to be unrevealed and obscure for humanity. However, there is nothing more engrossing and inspiring than people’s own inner space. According to Gingerich (Myers, 2014), our brain is known to be very complex object. It covers with mystery as both our actions, thoughts and emotions and other people’s actions, thoughts and emotions enthrall and fascinate us with their interplay.
There were evidences which pointed out that psyche denotes “soul” and logos denotes “study”. Therefore, earlier psychology was defined as the study of “soul” as well as “spirit”. But after conducting varied researches, psychology was found to be the study of mind and mental process. However, the later definition was canceled because an individual’s mind as an object does not exist: it cannot be detected and measured impartially (Lemma, 2005).
Thus, psychology as a science systematically studies things and facts about human beings. Psychology is determined as the scientific study of mental processes as well as behavior. It can be applied to help solve variety of problems and questions. It studies variety of subject matters. Thus, it is related to other disciplines such as philosophy, physiology, politics and economics.
Psychology has a great deal of contributions. Some of them are: it helps to understand each other, make reasonable decisions, fulfill varied demands and needs, estimate one’s own skills and abilities, accomplish a certain goal (McLeod, 2007).
Psychology as a science went through a series of numerous changes and enlargements. Thus, one can identify major recent perspectives which are very considerable in relation to the given study. The first one is the biological perspective. It claims that an individual’s behavior has a biological basis. The second one is the cognitive perspective. The given perspective clarifies that any information in consciousness is processed at varied stages and how our thoughts and intentions about the world have an impact on our behavior in general. The third one is behavioral perspective. Ivan Pavlov was a pioneer who opened a new way for psychological explorations. He conducted experiments on dogs. Hence, he provided other psychologists with abilities of behavior explanations and showed a lot of differences concerning behavior among individuals. The fourth one is the humanistic perspective. It states that people are in control concerning their lives. The perspective presumes that people are endowed with abilities to make their own decisions and control their behavior in general.
