Home is the place where people live together as a family and interact with other people living in nearby homes. Home is defined in different terms by different people and scholars. In general, home is a place such as an apartment or a house where people live together in the shape of a family. It is the routine residence of a family, person or household (Merriam Webster, home). It is a physical structure that houses people living as a family or as a social unit. Home can be defined in number of ways; however, the simplest definition of a home can be a place where people live together under a social contract and home forms part of the larger social unit such as a neighborhood, a town, a city, a state and a country. The essay attempts to define the home from the perspective of a place where one feels safe, comfortable and loved.
Home is a place where one feels safe and secure. Home is the securest place for any person who owns the home. The design and structure of the home is made according to the security requirements of the owner of the house. A home is constructed by a person in the desired manner to ensure adequate physical and mental security to the family living in the house. It is the home where everyone feels secure from all the evils of the world. A head of the family ensures adequate security to his family in the construction of the house. The selection of site for the construction of house also plays an important role in provision of security at home. A secure locality provides a secure home to the residents of the area. The overall concept of security ensures security at home and in the neighborhood through implementation of appropriate security measures.
Home is a place that is secure for the family with no threats from the neighborhood or elsewhere. A child feels secure at home as compared to any other place in the world. Similarly, a wife feels more secure at home as compared to any other place in the world. A man feels more safe and secure at his home. In the evening, one can see people on their way back home in a hurry in order to reach home and make themselves secure before the fall of night. Even animals and birds move back to their places and nests in the evening as they feel secure at their home. At night, everyone returns to the safety of home; may be early at night or late at night. Home is the final destination for everybody who owns a home. The nature of the security available at home is not available anywhere else (ABUS Security Tech Germany, 2). So it may be after the day’s work, or it may be after a party with friends, or after spending summer vacations away from home, everyone feels like returning back to the home. The thought of going back home provides the mental security and after reaching home the mental security is combined with the physical security. A home, thus, is the most secure place for any person on the earth.
A home is the most comfortable place for anybody on the earth. It includes humans, animals, birds and all types of insects. One can witness the birds moving back to their nest in the evening in order to have the comfort of their nests. Animals move back to their places in the evening so as to be with their family and feel comfortable at their routine place. Humans race back to their home in the evening after the end of working hours in order to comfort themselves in the cozy and comfortable home. After the full day of hard work, a laborer moves back to the comfort of his house. Home provides the desired comfort to the humans, animals and birds alike. The basic concept during the construction of a home remains the comfort of the family living in the house. The design is tailored according to the requirements of the user so as to provide the maximum level of comfort to the owner of the house.
A home is built by the owner keeping in view the comfort of the user. The design of the house is always user friendly in order to make the family comfortable on account of use of different spaces in the home. The structure of the home is major factor that ensures adequate comfort to the family living in the house. Varying weather conditions and resultant effects on the people living in the house determine the comfort level of the people living there. The home is like a mother’s lap that takes the resident in its lap and provides the desired comfort. People construct their house in a manner that makes their lives comfortable when at home. Different places such as lounge, bedrooms, kitchen and dining rooms are constructed in a way that provides maximum comfort to the user of home. Dining room is designed close to the kitchen so as to serve the food comfortably. The bedroom is kept away from the lounge so as to sleep with no disturbance. Every place in the house is designed to ensure maximum comfort of the family.
A home is a place where one is loved. It is the home where one learns the lesson of love for the first time in life. When is child is born, he is the center of attention of the whole family and everyone loves him. As the child grows, the love of the family for him takes different shape; but it remains there. As a young boy, the flow of love from the family stays there. The central theme of love remains the home, as they family that love the children lives together in a home. The love of wife and husband also progresses in a home after marriage. A person can love himself, his parents, brothers and sisters and other relations due to the association developed while living in one home. Home is a source of love among the members of a family and ensures rapid development of love among the family member as they live together in a home. Home provides the place for the growth of love between the members of a family. The relationship between the people is strengthened while living in a home as a family. The development of relationship leads gradually and slowly to the creation and development of love over a period of time. A home is a place where parents love their children and children love their parents. A home is the place where husband love his wife and wife loves her husband. Home stands central to theme of love. A home is a source of spreading love among the members of a family. When people live together as a family in one home for some time, they automatically develop affiliation with each other that gradually transforms in to love among the family members. Thus, home is the place where one is loved like no other place in the world.
The older definition of the home may be modified in the light of above mentioned arguments. There is no problem with the older definition; however, when the feelings of humans get involved in the definition of a home, it becomes a place where one feels secure, comfortable and loved. For a layman, the older definition of home holds good in simpler term, however, after involvement of human emotions, the new definition of home appears rationale and appropriate. The human attachment and emotions logically leads to the new definition of a home. In real terms, a house becomes a home after inclusion of the human emotions of love, comfort and security.
