Essay #2 (First draft)
The society provides significant opportunities for learning according to which children tends to learn very soon, alongside experiencing some limitations and gender privileges. With changes in experiences, it is very difficult for a child to cope with the societal changes and family practices, particularly when the child is growing to adulthood. On this account, the aim of this paper is to provide significant insight related to the aspects through which parents treat their children encountered with depression. The manner in which the parents treat their children is dependent upon the condition or behavior of the child. The depression in adolescents and teenagers can cause mental disability, hatred for the society, or suicide for a victim that can only be removed by providing effective treatment, acting in a polite and calm manner, and communicating with an influential person.
The parents of teens are shouldered with enormous responsibilities as their child is growing and gaining its own individuality. Such parents witness behavioral changes in their children that are mainly resulting from the raging hormones as well as pressure posed by peers. Emotional highs and lows play a prominent role in the transformation of a child into a teen that helps them learn about how to overcome such situations (Benoit, Lacourse and Claes 456). However, some of the children may come across depression resulting in family upheaval regarding emotional roller coaster as the young children makes effort to survive in a world where their beliefs vary and they try to learn and adopt to the new ways.
The causes of the problem are severe that may result in the wrongful actions committed by the adolescents or teenagers. The depression at this stage is not in the control of the child itself, and he/she may lead to alcohol or drug abuse. It can cause depression in a teenager to an extent where the victim may create violence, self-mutilation, or even attempt suicide. It is not a problem of all teenagers, but the research concludes that this type of depression is common in teenagers who failed in executing some particular task. The teenagers cannot accept the failure at large as it is their growing period and they do not have strong tolerated potential. They may have a different way of looking at things than adults. They take this type of failure heavy on their mind and try to run far away from the reality. The life of teenagers is tough, and they usually turn their mood depending upon the situations .
Children during early teen ages are at the constant mainstay of exposure to burdens enrooted with the lack of motivation and enthusiasm, agitation, hopelessness, and anger. Dealing with everyday life can be branched out from the past experiences related to abuse or not being able to fit in the crowd, or being bullied at a very young age (Benoit, Lacourse and Claes 455). In context to the aspect mentioned above, parents are often unaware of what measures are applicable for the treatment of their child’s depression. Therefore, it is necessary for the parents to consult a primary care physician as well as the family therapist. The designing of a treatment plan will be dependent upon the severity of the condition.
However, parents are educated to participate actively in the facilitation of care. Firstly, the parents should talk to their child about how they feel and their daily life happenings taking place at home and at school that can be of bothersome nature. Moreover, the parents of children with depression should discuss the problems of their child with their doctor to obtain a clear picture of the underlying cause. The doctor may facilitate with certain recommendations regarding counseling so that the child can be helped by the varying emotions and behavior (American Academy of Pediatrics). Furthermore, it is the responsibility of the parents to assure security and safety of their children that can be practiced by talking with the child about bullying that is regarded as the major cause of mental health problems.
Making strong efforts to avoid using those things that depress a person can solve the problem. The usage of foul language towards a person or bullying them can create hatred in a person. The guardians should help the victims to get out of the situation by sharing those things that bring a smile on his face. They should lead the teenagers get out of the isolation and try to convince him that he should be ready to get out of this hazardous situation. The treatment of this depression is possible that would take a long procedure, but there should be no delay in the start of this treatment.
The parents of the patient should concern with the family doctor who can help the patient and his family to control over the situation (Helpguide.org, 2016). However, all the details of the past and current situation of the patient should be communicated to the doctor so that the doctors diagnose the type of the depression. The doctor will take a physical exam to assess the mental health of a patient and notify some symptoms by taking few blood samples. The treatment will result in an effective solution of the patient’s problem (Empfield and Bakalar 31).
The role of a family and friends can be useful in solving the problem of a person. They should not allow a person to get hyper and get more depressed. They should notice the behavior of the person while performing daily routine activities and avoid repeating them in front of a person (Empfieldand Bakalar 130). Everyone has some special person in life that can convince him to perform a certain action. The parents should concern that person and ask to help them in resolving the problem. The polite, calm, and a friendly behavior will be helpful in recovering the person quickly. The mental health of a person can be improved when he will engage in social activities at large and will not get time to bring such things in the mind (Helpguide.org, 2016).
Conversely, by providing the child with additional support, alongside reducing the stress by making changes in chores, activities, or amount of homework is mandatory. Parents should promote adoption of a healthy lifestyle by encouraging the child to consume a healthy diet, adequate sleep, engagement in physical exercise, limited screening time, and development of positive connections with people at home as well as at school (American Academy of Pediatrics).
The depressed child should be frequently appraised for good behaviors and parents should establish a strong bond with the child so that they can point their child’s strengths and weaknesses. The depressed child could be recovered efficiently by having a discussion with the family doctor and special person who influences them. On the contrary, monitoring should be carried out regarding social activities of the child along with the proper administration of the medications. The recovery road may be long, but the help and support of the parents can assist the child in seeking a way out from the depression.
