According to H. Gene Blocker, the most significant historical sources of our modern conception regarding human rights are ancient medieval terms and notions that provide an explanation about natural law and human rights. However, this philosophy and ideas associated with this philosophy has emerged from the ideas of philosophers of pre-modern era such as from ideas of Plato, Aristotle, and Cicero to the ideas of modern and medieval era philosophers including Hobbes, Jefferson, Bentham, Locke, Aquinas, and Roosevelt. Further, another most important historical source in this regard is the United Nations Universal Declaration of Human Rights 1947, which played an essential role in describing non-human rights of corporations, animals, comatose patients, rights of government, and rights of infants to the group. All these sources paved the way to universal human rights that have in fact become international standard on which all countries are paying attention so that all human beings have access to their basic rights.
Human rights are considered as moral considerations that help in protecting every individual from the outcomes of calculations that are linked with utilitarianism. Most of the philosophers are of the view that it is necessary to ensure protection of human beings, because safeguarding human beings lead to safeguarding of human rights. All historical sources have pointed out towards that fact that all human beings have rights irrespective of the contingent properties. They emphasized on considering worth of human by focusing on restoration of their rights. Further, H. Gene Blocker found the provision of basic human rights is necessary, and in this regard the most important right is right to life, to exist, to have shelter, and to have food to live all of which demands protection of rights of individuals.
I can identify these sources in the contemporary culture as modern government is allowing people to enjoy their basic rights such as people have freedom of living their life, freedom of enjoying liberty, property, justice, and equality. People are given freedom by government. Governments of many countries are now considering rights of people, and are allowing them to freely exercise them in accordance with national or international law. But, still there are some people that are living within the restrictions of natural laws, and are posing threat to liberties and freedom of other people. This is the reason that governments are formed in order to protect and guarantee rights of individuals and human inalienable rights. But, still the issue is of abstract idea regarding human rights at universal level, and the method of giving respect to these rights. The questions regarding protection of human rights, people responsible for ensuring protection, and enforcement of human rights are still unanswered.
The historical sources are, however, reflected in the present day society as respecting of rights of other people is ensured by people as well as by government. This can be considered from an example that the United States is ready to stand up in situations where human rights are under threat. The United States want to ensure openness, and freedom so that all people can avail the opportunities. The country is, however taking adequate measures in order to support and train individuals whose lives are at risks so that their generation or children can enjoy more opportunities and freedom. Now, many countries are also setting guidelines for businesses so that they also ensure protection of human rights.
