Introduction
The film that is being reviewed in this paper is that of Libby, Montana. The question that bites in from the film is if there is really assessment of the health of communities living around companies. What is the overriding factor that is being considered by the government and politicians when it comes to matters of the surrounding community? The general approach to the health of individuals living around a given manufacturing firm is that there should be constant assessment of the manufacturing process and check the product being manufactured to ensure that there is no damage that is being exposed to the community. The film brings this issue and raises the question of assessment of the people community in regard to the pollution of the companies in their vicinity. Nearly all countries have environment conservation and pollution watchdogs in place. The question that comes to mind is what role these watchdogs have to the community. Do they have the powers to check the damage that manufacturing companies expose the community?
Discussion
Another point of concern is that there should be a framework that should be developed and followed so that when a company is started, the surrounding community should be safe from the products that are produced from the company. If this could have been the case, the Montana people could have been safe. There should be thorough screening and assessment done to the community regarding the community safety and whether they would be affected in the operations of the company.
Another point is that the corporate social responsibility should integrate healthy initiatives where the community is screened for any effect that is from the products and any mining activity. This should be undertaken by independent parties so that there is transparency in the whole process. This has been long overdue with manufacturing companies.
Conclusion
The idea is important because of the industrialization and the use of computers in the 21st century. This idea of assessing companies should be implemented and the watchdogs given more power to implement their vigilante activities. There should be the support of this initiative that will help the vulnerable population. With computerization taking place, there are effects that employees are being exposed. This should be an issue of concern for the companies. There are masts that are erected in various places. The radiation from these masts is an issue of concern. There should be the protection of the vulnerable population. This will not take place unless there are policies and framework that will protect the population from the damages from the effects.
