Self-efficacy exhibits the innate abilities to determine good leadership skills in every realm or position. Leadership development and self-efficacy plan helps to generate and keep confidence, strengths, and confidence and good management skills (Schwarzer, 2014). It identifies areas of weaknesses and strengths that an individual would use in order to build on strengths and improve the weakness areas. According to leadership theories theory, leadership is a trait someone can learn and develop. Developing flexibility in management and inner dynamism help individuals in leadership position to adapt to the challenges of leadership.
Using the same criterion, I evaluated my leadership skills by developing a questionnaire that I served to my classmate to see how he perceives my leadership skills. From the findings, I realised my strengths in the following areas.
Assertiveness
My friend described me bas an assertive leader, who believes in what he says and stands for it. He justified that it is always not easy to sway my thoughts to accept something I am not convinced as the right way.
Critical thinking
Knowledge
I have the power of knack and direction, through influencing people’s efforts to perform various tasks. He added in the questionnaire that people never question my directives, since they give definite plan of action.
Positivity
As a leader, I am so positive in giving directions through humble and friendly criticism if something does not work well. I am so passionate to see that the team works together in one accord and respect.
Raconteur
I relate well with the people I lead, listen to their concerns and respond to their needs. If there is any form of conflict arising from something I decide that people do not like, I get down and listen to their objections, then develop a sustaining solution for the same.
However, the finding also revealed the following weaknesses about me. These are the areas I must put much effort in order to be the best-celebrated leader.
Emotional imbalance
It was realised that I become emotionally unstable if things do not work alongside my projected plans. I easily get angry and never listen to any one until things are in the right way I want them done.
Domineering
It was conspicuous from the response that I am ever bossy when channelling my ideas. I issue my commands with excess authority and make sure that they manifest with zero compromise.
In the finding, it is very true that I am a good team leader in the areas of assertiveness, critical thinking, knowledge, positivity and raconteur. In addition, I am also aware that I am good in ideation, command, completion for something good, positivity, and in good relations. Others think of me as good in coordinating skills and influencing efforts. Moreover, in my own private understanding, I am good in emotional intelligence that my friend did not understand to mention as poor emotional balance.
In the assessment, my friend failed to acknowledge that I am good in emotional intelligence that allows me to coordinate the activities of the team. He did not realise this because of my common way of pushing for an idea. I get delighted when things done go the best way. I feel very bad when things fail at the whims of careless people who must be supervised under strict following to deliver. However, from my friend’s rejoinder, I do not think he was accurate to mention me as a raconteur, since some time I feel nervous to address a big team. I always struggle in order to with stand a big crowd.
In this precept, I will mindful about improving on the areas of weakness, which are being bossy and emotionally unstable. I will always charge my duties with moderate tones and make sure that I do not get overboard with my instructions. My friend misinterpret my trait of perfectionism to be bossy and emotionally unstable. Therefore, I am intending to use the best mode of presentation when speaking my directions. On the other hand, I will capitalise on my strengths by emotionally encouraging my team to be the best they can be improvising more forms of appreciations. i will always motivate them by organising programs that inspire them for example organising field excursion and exchange programs with other university in order to learn new ideas, and generate the skills of socialisation.
In conclusion. Self-efficacy proves the inborn aptitudes to validate good leadership skills in every realm or position. It classifies areas of weaknesses and strengths that an individual would use in order to shape on strengths and recover the weakness areas. Therefore, it is a noble tool that every person aspiring to be a leader must use to position himself or herself as the best admirable character.
