Introduction
Learning foreign language is an interesting concept for a learner if he/she can make it possible by speaking as early as possible. However, it is more complicated task for a teacher who teaches foreign language to students. Because they have to teach according to the requirement and ability of each student and it is a tiresome task for a teacher to find out the way to teach each students to master them in that foreign language. While speaking or using native language, no one needs practice as it will naturally comes out and it will be easy for the learner to express himself/herself effectively. On the contrary, it is quiet natural to be stuck up with grammar and vocabulary when trying to express oneself in foreign language. Expressing ideas in foreign language is possible only when it is practiced. For foreign learners of a language, the fluency and efficiency over the language will not come quiet naturally, as the native speakers use it. Even the students can get mastery over the foreign language if they practiced it in two ways. First, they have to be in the native land of that foreign language and practice it along with the native speakers or secondly, they have to be taught by a native speaker, then only it is easy for them to understand the usage of every words and grammar while speaking or writing in that foreign language. If the students get a native speaker of the foreign language as their teacher, they can excel over the language by knowing nook and corner of the aspects of the language.
Process of Educating and Learning
Before educate the students, the teacher has to know the purpose of the teaching with certainty. The purpose of learning a foreign language is two-folded, as it is for learners to get the knowledge about the basics, concepts, and background of the language and to be trained with grammar and syntax of the language. Majority of the educators of foreign language show more interest in making their students to learn speaking the foreign language as early as possible because they consider speaking the foreign language is the highest requirement of the students. To make them communicate effectively in the foreign language is the duty of the teacher. It is a fact that language learning is a behavioral task. The foreign language instructor has to provide the learners a perfect inducement to get good response in terms of understanding about the form and structure of the foreign language. The instructor has to educate the learners with the ability to perceive and equip them with the appropriate learning method. To foreign learners, the teacher who is the native speaker of the foreign language has to use the teaching techniques, well-organized process, and strategies to make the students understand the language and be able to communicate, and scholarly use of the linguistic aspects. Learning a language is a process of imitating it from the native speakers. The native language can easily be imitated from the parents and the flow will be natural by the constant practice of it. It is the same case while learning the foreign language. The learners can imitate the foreign language but it will come naturally only when the learners keep practicing it with the group of native speakers or who can speak or imitate native speakers effectively with all the accent and stress. Grammar, syntax, and vocabulary are the most important linguistic terms and that have to be considered while learning a language. Even the native speakers of the foreign language never bother about the grammatical part it will flow naturally. In the case of nonnative speakers, it takes a lot of effort and practice to master over the grammatical part as well as the language itself.
Drilling and Practicing for Accuracy and Fluency
In this regard, the teacher has to drill and make the students to practice the language by using various language learning methods like conversations, assignments, and practical home works, which may work a little if there is same speed of effort from the side of the learners. Drilling is the teacher-centered process, while practicing is a student-centered process. The instructor while teaching foreign language to nonnative speakers has to do lot of research about the students level of efficiency over the language to know where they are standing in the ladder of learning. Then only they can understand every student’s nature and find out several methods and strategies to drill the students in the parts where they are inefficient. This kind of study can help the teacher to guide and teach them in the way they can understand the concept of linguistics. The language has nothing to teach instead it has to be trained and should be practiced by the learners. Theories and millions of grammar exercises hardly help learner of the foreign language. Instead of learning theoretically, practice creates more impact on students in the process of learning a foreign language. The foreign language learners need motivation because it is easy for them to acquire their native language, but they have to struggle to learn a completely new language. To learn this, one has to have interest over the language and he/she has to be motivated even for their small efforts, which will be a great inducement for them to put more efforts to learn the foreign language.
Efficiency of Native Speaker vs. Nonnative Speaker, as a Teacher
Above all, the proper stress, intonation, and fluency can come only from the native speakers or those who are practicing with the native speakers. In the same way, if a teacher can speak fluently, then only he/she can teach his/her students. Students will reflect only the teacher from whom they learnt something. Therefore, the students can get proper guidance of usage from their teacher who often practicing it to get clear vision about the foreign language and understand the usage of every word and structure. Even the foreign language teaching websites never allow a nonnative speaker as their instructor because they feel the nonnative speakers cannot use the proper stress and intonation like native speaker even though they know the stress and intonation. Therefore, the learner can learn the each and every aspects of a foreign language only from a teacher who is a native speaker.
Conclusion
The instructors have to prepare a proper lesson plan to make his/her students become well versed in the foreign language and it should be task oriented then only it will be helpful for the students to get a clear idea about the language and learn it as early as possible with the better understanding. It helps students to move towards teacher to get linguistic dependence. While teaching swimming, the teacher has to teach every step by holding the learners up in the water. At one stage, they have to take off their hand and let the learners swim by themselves; otherwise, they will not be able to swim at all. Similarly, it is more important to let the foreign language learners to practice and develop by themselves and master over the language. The teacher’s duty is to show the learning ways and method and it is the duty of the learner to get proficiency over the language. The lesson planning and the various method and strategies of the instructor have to do the role of the supporter when the learners practice it. The teacher should be more efficient to use all the guidelines and lesson plan when and where to use and apply as a support and should know when and how to withdraw that support, otherwise, the learners will always lean on them for support.
