There are several left-wing issues these days which are problems that promotes social inequality and social hierarchy. First issue has something to do with our American Indian brothers in Inglewood who recently held a clemency program for the release of AIM activist Leonard Peltier who supported Martin Luther King during his mission for equality. Peltier has been in prison since 1977 due to trumped-up charges with weak jurisdictions and evidences. Another recent news is the commemoration of the Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, and Transgender community to pay tribute to their fellow brothers and sisters who were murdered all over the globe. The discrimination against the LGBT community has been a plague for many years now and the issue is in need of great attention by our leaders around the world. Now entering the world of politics, Senate Candidate Kamala Harris gave a stump speech at the California Democrats State Convention that took place at Anaheim, California. Frustrated homeowners who failed to meet up with the senate candidate attended the event with posters and huge clothes with statements “Sold out! Sold out! Took money from Wall Street.” Harris was accused of protecting banks from criminal consequences that were successful on gaining $18 Billion from a settlement against homeowners. The group of homeowners showed not only their frustration but their eagerness to do everything they can to make Harris lose his race for a senatorial position. In a common issue which is police brutality, enraged residents took it to themselves to attack Councilmember Mike Bonin for his passive actions towards this issue. Bonin called the people who are mad at the police for their immoral actions, “outside agitators.” Another issue is the protest of Australian Aborigines in Australia to maintain the lands that was given to them by their ancestors. People from Los Angeles showed their support by holding their simple and peaceful protest. A large group of Angelinos in LA engaged on a march to end violence against women. The advocates for woman’s rights made a stop in front of the LA Police Headquarters with a huge signage containing the names of all the women who died by the hands of the police. Instead of attacking the police station, they encouraged every police officer to be part of the movement. There seems to be a lot of movement against the LA police system, a group of lawyers, law students, and other advocates for black lives lay down in front of the LA Courthouse like dead people to pay tribute to the innocent individuals who were killed by the police. Just like the African American community in USA, the Israeli community in LA staged a protest against severe violence including unlawful killings of children. LA joined this movement and some of them painted their shirts with the color red to signify all of the blood lost due to the violence. Most of these news took place in 2015 and 2014, but the issues are just the same with each other facing the same old problems. There aren’t much extremist groups in most of the issues, however a strong factor is lingering among the residents of LA and that is anger towards social inequality and police brutality. In all of the news, for example the Clemency program for Leonard Peltier was a solemn issue that screams the need for justice for an innocent man who wanted nothing but welfare for his people. Most of the movements against the issues in LA are ignited by anger, pain, and hope. According to Schiller (2008) trumped up accusations leading to the imprisonment of innocent persons is one of the worst misfortunes for superheroes. Most of the issues in LA are caused by the people who are the ones tasked to protect and serve the people. Instead, police officers and government officials inflicts extreme pain to the people. Yes they are not criminals, they are worse than criminals because if the actions they make in split seconds. Another painful scenario would be the retaliation of the victims through violence which 0will ignite a violent mission for the satisfaction of getting even with the police and government officials.
In Los Angeles Independent website and domain, the flow of publication is courageous to show everyone in the world the biggest problem faced by the city. The forum isn’t that active in updating the most recent news, but they make sure to publish the most essential information needed to provide awareness. The website also allow the public and readers to use the materials like photos, references, and videos they upload on the website for further distribution to a larger group of audiences. The website or forum is also very detailed in providing all the needed information to complete each news release. It is right to say that the website itself is an advocate for the people of LA suffering under unjust actions. It takes a brave journalist to object against an individual of a group of people who holds power over the society in order to expose their immoral actions, brave journalism speaks the truth even if that means making enemies along the way (Wyatt, 2014).
