Clinician Provider Order Entry (CPOE) denotes a system that facilitates direct entry of medical information that aids physicians to offer sound treatment and other services to patients. When used appropriately, the system targets at reducing delays, eliminating human errors as well as simplification of inventories and posting of charges in a timely manner. Most healthcare facilities are opting for the system owing to its advantages not only to the patients, but also to the physicians (Ash, Anderson & Tarczy-Hornoch, 2008).
When the projected was implemented, several physicians and other staff were of the notion that the system would double the Workload. To convince them otherwise, an IT consultant was employed to address various issues they had as well as expound on the CPOE and responding the questions at hand. Memorial Health system correspondingly underestimated the budget when implementation of CPOE initially began leading rushed findings just to hurry the implementation process.
The project was of big magnitude, and it required adequate planning and research, adequate staff not forgetting that they needed proper training that would aid them avoid in using the system. Deficiency of proper planning led to the failure of the project resulting to the health facility reverting to its initial manual procedures (Ash et al, 2008).
