Target Audience: Preschool Children, 3 – 4 years
Learning Objectives: During this lesson, preschool children will learn the parts of their body and their functions.
Activities:
The teacher will sing the song “Me Complete” and teach the children the song.
The teacher will help the children create life-size body outlines, according to the following procedure:
One child will lay on his/her back, on a large piece of paper.
After informing the child, draw an outline around his/her body with a marker.
Once each child has an outline, give the children crayons to color their drawings. *Suggestion – have the children color their outline to match their outfits in order to identify the pictures later (i.e. – red shorts and blue shirt on the outline of a child wearing red shorts and blue shirt to the event).
When the children have finished coloring their outlines, the teacher will hand out labels with the body parts printed on them.
Then, the teacher will have the children recall their body parts and glue the labels onto their outlines in the correct location. Body parts include:
Legs,
Arms,
Mouth,
Nose,
Eyes,
Hands,
Feet,
Head,
Fingers, and
Toes
As the children are labeling the parts of the body on their outlines, the teacher will describe the function and/or use of each body part.
If possible, allow the children extra time to draw and color hair, eyes, ears, etc.
