LIVE CONCERT ESSAY
Jazz music is one of the old genres of music in the world. It is however very interesting and soothing to listen to. It does have a hint of relaxation attached to it. The mood created by jazz music is just soothing to say the least. It is calmed and relaxed and surprisingly very easy to dance to. The following essay is a report on a visit to a jazz concert. It entails special and detailed analysis of the instruments applied in jazz music and their effectiveness in reaching out to the crowd and making jazz music the global sensation that it is today. The jazz concert was at the trumpets jazz club and restaurants.
The most outstanding or rather easily noticeable thing about jazz music is the saxophone. The saxophone stands out as perhaps the forefront musical instrument as far as jazz music is concerned. Surprisingly the saxophone requires a lot of artistry to master. From the jazz concert attended it was very clear that not just any one could play the saxophone. It required prowess and skills. The most interesting thing about the saxophone and jazz is the notes hit by the player. These notes dictate literally the mood of the audience in attendance. They signify the climax which tends to stand out as the most energetic part of the performance. During the climax the saxophone is especially loud but not loud enough to be deemed as noisy. The playing of the saxophone is not random. It is very procedural and in fact very rhythmic. It is artistic to say the least. The saxophone also has intonation that contributes to the rhythm aspect of the jazz performance.
Rhythm is also another very important element of jazz music as noted in the live performance. Rhythm in jazz music is however different from rhythm in other forms of music. In jazz music the rhythm starts of as relaxed and cool but morphs gradually during the performance. The rhythm changes with ever more increasing energy and vigor. By the time jazz music is at its climax the rhythm tells it all. During the climax, the rhythm is mostly spontaneous and involves improvisations of free energetic flow which relates to the audience and sends every single person in attendance into frenzy. In jazz music however the rhythm is mostly oriented towards free flow of emotions.
Bass is also an outstanding part of jazz music. The bass in jazz music is however very coordinated. The bass is in pure synchrony with the other musical instruments in use in a jazz concert . The main source of the bass is a trumpet. This trumpet produces a unique type of bass that is both rhythmic and entertaining. The cornet is also an integral part of bass production in jazz music. The trumpet and the cornet sound almost the same but for a key listener they are completely different. This is because the trumpet has a higher pitch than the cornet. The trumpet is also generally louder than the cornet and thus tends to stand out as far as bass is concerned. The cornet however perfectly complements the bass produced by the trumpet. It covers for roughness in the pitch and intonation of the trumpet and this makes the bass more appealing as opposed to noisy.
Harmony is also very important in jazz music as witnessed in the concert. This is where the piano comes in. The piano brings together all the instruments in play and harmonizes all the sounds of the instruments. This makes jazz music have a hint of unity in terms of the instrumentation.
