I feel that the government ignorance on the impeding terrorist attacks was an indication of weak and poor leadership. The leader, even though he was not elected by the majority had a responsibility to protect the people of his nation from external aggression.
Hitler failed to stop terrorist from occurring even with full intelligence report and his reactions to the attacks swung from good to worse. I support the bold moves that made him popular as patriotism increased in Germany. On the contrary, suspending laws that protected the same patriotic people from unnecessary mistreatment, oppression, privacy, and freedom of speech was not an acceptable idea. Even with the construction of detention centre, the suspects deserved a right to fair hearing, and an access to lawyers since no one could establish their direct involvement with terrorism activities within the country. The privacy of the citizens was not supposed to be breached at all. These actions oppressed the opposition leaders and those who held dissenting opinions. The takeover of the media and appointment of royalist was not justified since it helped in establishment of extreme dictatorship.
In my opinion, engaging in what is referred to as “small war” to distract the people from internal affairs that challenged the government was not just wrong, but also immoral. The tactic seemed to be very useful in propagating dictatorship by distracting the people and making them have a strong sense of patriotism. It is such tactic that made the Germans develops a philosophy of selfishness that viewed themselves as the “true people”. Pulling out of the League of Nations was also a bad choice. After the depression the methods used by the Germans to recover was wrong. The American method was more realistic as it promoted sustainable national development other than the German’s method.
In conclusion, even if Hitler used absolute dictatorship in his rule, it made the Germans develop patriotism at that time. Such patriotism could be difficult to build on such circumstances. In addition, even if Hitler took completely a different approach in recovering from recession, it worked for the country.
