My scene is set in new Washington dc in 1938.this is because this was a time of uncertainty. War was looming and the whole world knew that a world war was imminent just like war was looming in Othello. The scene is set in Washington dc because it is the capital of the United States 0f America. If any military strategies were to be discussed about war in 1938 they would most definitely be discussed in Washington. The scene chosen in this recasting is the very first scene in the very first act. This is the scene where Roderigo and Othello discuss Othello. Roderigo hates Othello because he has just marred the girl of his dreams called Desdemona. He manipulates Lago into aiding him to sabotage Othello. He does this by reminding Lago that Othello failed to promote him despite his long service under Othello in the military. This scene is very important because it transcends time. The issues being discussed in this scene are not exclusive to the time period of the writing of the play but are rather timeless issues and aspects of life that are in play even in current times. People still fall in love with women that are beyond their reach. Some people still stoop as low as Rodrigo did in sabotaging the marriage of the woman they have a crush on just to make sure they get her for themselves. This scene is particularly perfect when set in 1938 because of the military tension back at the time. Desdemona’s father also plays a very large part in her married life and her marital relations. This is similar to the 1930s when parents especially fathers had a lot to say in terms of who their daughters married and the terms of the marriage.
The light in this scene would focus on Rodrigo and Lagos. The light would be slightly dim. This is because these two characters are plotting treachery in this scene. It is therefore only appropriate that the lighting reflect the ongoing in the scene. The light would only be slightly dim and not very dim. This would enable the audience to clearly see the characters yet at the same time get the general mood of what is going on in the scene. The lighting will enable the audience to feel and embody the treachery that is being plotted by Rodrigo and Lagos. The music would also reflect the mood of the scene. The music would be sow and with a rather melancholic tone that reflects treachery. Music is very important in plays. This is because not just of its entertainment value but also because of its informative and synchronization value. It is therefore very relevant that the music in this scene clearly reflect what is going on in the scene. A slow and dull tone in the music would reflect treachery and evil at work. This would enable the audience to know what is going on in the scene and move step by step with the characters. It would also enable the audience to distinguish the good guys from the bad guys. Through music in a particular scene the audience can clearly distinguish the protagonists from the antagonists. The stage would reflect Washington dc in the 119300s.there would however be props depicting heavy military presence in the capital. This is necessary to emphasize the military tension that existed at the time of the original setting of the play. Lagos would be in full military gear so as to let the audiences know that he is a man of the military.
The cast in this scene would be Hugh Jackman and Charlie Sheen. This is because no one knows how to cry over a girl like Hugh Jackman and chalice sheen is the master of treachery and sabotage. Hugh Jackman would play Rodrigo and Charlie sheen would play Lagos. These two great performers would bring these two iconic characters to life in the best way imaginable. They would be the very best embodiments of these two characters and thus would provide the best entertainment value for the audience. Lagos would wear a military uniform. This is because in the original play Lagos is a man of the military who has served for quite a long time. Rodrigo would wear a suit and not a cheap one at that. This is because Rodrigo is a rich man. His stature and financial status is supposed to be reflected in his demeanor and his attire. Rodrigo would thus wear a suit so as to signify just how rich he is. This scene is very important to the play as a whole. This is because the scene introduces the main antagonists in the play. The scene also introduces the main source of conflict in the play. The conflict is about a woman who is married but there is a man who has a crush on her and bent on doing whatever it takes to sabotage her marriage so that he can have her all for himself. The themes in play in this scene are love and jealousy. Friendship and betrayal are also very important themes in this scene.
