According to Oxford Advanced Learner’s Dictionary (8th Edition), racism is defined as “a belief or doctrine that inherent differences among the various human races determine cultural or individual achievement, usually involving the idea that one’s own race is superior and has the right to rule others.” (Oxford 8th Ed, 1,238) The key word here is ‘inherent’. No one chooses how they should be born. Neither can anyone change who they are. Racism is one of the top ten social vices even in modern America. My campaign will be aimed at zero tolerance to this evil.
- My goal.
The main goal of my campaign will be to ensure that nobody living in America will ever again go through the humiliation of discrimination by virtue of the colour of their skin. Whether an American or an immigrant, the colour of one’s skin will be the last thing to use in judging a person’s character or ability.
- My coalition
Racism can happen anywhere. Therefore, my campaign will have to be well organized to the grassroots. It will include:
- Religious leaders who will ensure that during religious gatherings, my slogan “We Are One” is vehemently preached
- Workers unions
- Business owners’ associations
- Immigrants unions
- Local leaders in towns, cities, counties and states
- Beauty pageants
- Organization
For each town or city, I will have a leader representing each of the groups mentioned above. These ones will organize and hold rallies and other forums to facilitate all the activities of my campaign against racism.
- Research
- Evaluating the political will to fight racism
I will need to evaluate the effort the government is making in ensuring that racism is a thing of the past. An example is the U.S. Coalition of Cities against Racism which was launched on 12th September, 2013.
- Educate
Ensure that Americans get to know the evils of racism by organising and facilitating rallies and other forums to sensitize the public on the need to fight this vice.
- Working with media
Appreciating the role media play in passing information across, I will ensure that I work closely with them so that my message reaches as many people as possible.
- Making my case known to the elected body
When I meet policy and decision makers, my case will be clear: Rid America of racism.
- Implementation and Monitoring
I will have to ensure the people who work for my campaign do what they ought to do in fighting racism as aggressively as possible.
- Celebrating victory
At the end of each year, we will organize for a celebration of the achievements in the fight against racism.
