PART 1
I am not an introvert neither do I remain so silent, but when performing certain tasks, am only interested in handling what I am good at. When interacting with my fellow students, I chose to remain quiet and observe the behaviors and deeds of others. Whenever I decided to express my opinion, everybody seemed shocked. My language was not perfect to explain my arguments, and I remained a laughing stock in the midst. My inability to fluently express my opinions was a puzzle that remained difficult to solve. I was irrelevant in the teamwork because the native speakers failed to capture what I meant in the argument. Earlier on, my family and friends claimed that I was good in handling challenging situations by setting my mind. Whenever I remembered their statements, I felt passionate and motivated to solve the tasks. My confidence was not so strong most of my group members never supported what I contributed. One of my friends decided to support me by teaching me English, and his efforts helped me. We shared most of our times together, and I started to learn the culture in the UK. My team members observed the difference and appreciated my hard work. During group activities, I was not stressed as before, and I began to enjoy all process and activities meant to find solutions.
Part 2
Having constrained by the language barrier when communicating with a friend, I end up contributing things that do not make sense to the fellow teammates, especially when taking the manager role. According to the Management Charter Initiative (MCI), the manager should enhance relevance at the managerial work. In the real world of work, the manager should be in a position to ensure relevance and determine the relevant skills required to enhance the relevance and affecting management. The MCI provides the occupational standards that reflect not only the current activities and tasks, but also the future needs that portray effective practices rather than the minimum requirements. Therefore, rom this toolkit, it is clear that effective management skills are enhanced by the ability to develop future needs that facilitate better relationship and performance in the group. In addition, the MCI standards, requires that to have effective management skills, one has to learn from the experience. Therefore, I should be ready and willing to learn from experience by interacting with the students who can help me overcome poor skills such as language and interacting skills.
The MCI also provides the use of the functional analysis so that people can identify management skills and reflects what are required to do as managers. Through these standards, an individual needs to ask themselves what is needed to demonstrate that they have the required broad skills. For example, in order to remain relevant in the group work, I am supposed to consider all the possible strategies and implications before providing the considered opinion. This implies that I should learn to observe and listen to my team mates and also try to be thoughtful and cautious before engaging into any activity. Additionally, I should be in a position to identify the objective and goals that can facilitate my interacting skills and also eliminate the language barrier. Through these standards, it is possible to manage information for the team through learning for the experience. Therefore, I should not take the poor interacting skills as a barrier to communicating; rather, I should try to communicate with teammates from different cultural backgrounds. Through interacting with such team mates, I am supposed to emphasis on sharing different cultural stories to improve my knowledge on cultures and hence interaction skills. I should also ensure that the team members are working as a group so that every member is contributing relevantly to the group. As illustrated, I have weak management and leadership ability that can be improved through interaction skills, and relevant exchange and connection with the team mates.
Part 3
The critical incident was associated with both strengths and weaknesses. At first, my language was poor, and I was unable to explain my views in the group. Most of the time, I was irrelevant as my confidence was so low. I also experienced difficulties in understanding and appreciating diverse cultures because of my Chinese background. Another huge weakness that affected me was the lack of social skills in life. I felt undermined and bullied by my team members. I failed to realize how social skills foster numerous benefits in my career. I also experienced poor leadership skills throughout the group activities. My interactions skills proved futile because I found it difficult to be understood.
Moreover, as demonstrated in the profile, I am always passionate and enthusiastic in dealing with stressful situations if supported. My desire to learn is unquestionable, and I am always courageous in exploring new environments. Despite the lack of confidence at the start, I opted to work hard and improve the situation. I interacted with different individuals to improve my social and interactive skills. In the end, a friendly environment was established and my leadership skills seemed to improve on different occasions. It was time to improve on the weaknesses observed earlier.
