Sexual minorities are those people who do not share sexual preferences like other people. In this text I will look at how to interact with the minorities and how it will be affected by my religion, Christianity. Various opportunities and challenges will be present when dealing with such clients.
In Christianity many of these practices by the minorities are often forbidden. This therefore may pose a challenge when working with such clients. However, as a professional one has to be free from bias and serve all people equally (Calhoun, 2010).
Religion teaches us not to judge others. With this belief, I know it will be very easy to take care of my clients with no apparent bias. This will ensure the growth of my career as I interact with people from various walks of life. Therefore, dealing with sexual minorities will be easy when religion comes into play.
However, some practices are forbidden by religion especially in the sexuality part. One can commit sin by just listening. Also, my moral standpoint cannot tolerate things like sex talk of a gay couple. Therefore in instances like these, an intervention by another person like a colleague will be called for. This can however have adverse effects on my career development.
When dealing with the minorities, a doctrine like treat others the way you want to be treated will come in handy. Also, by working with a certain client doesn’t mean that will undermine your beliefs (Lewis, 2007). Therefore treating all people equal with no bias will help me overcome the challenges.
In conclusion, religion and professionalism affect each other but one has to know how to deal with the challenges that will come forth.
