Some people take marijuana as a relatively non-damaging and a helpful drug; it is an incorrect concept since there are many effective drugs in the market that relieves pain without making patients dependent on them instead of marijuana; as it harms more than helps. It is in fact, as destructive as alcohol or any other drug. There are no authorized medical evidences that would have proven its worth more than its negative nature. By means of governmental statute and developmental conditions, both long and short-term effects of the drug could be seen. The validation of this drug, although appears very profitable, yet masquerades more menace than help. Therefore, it is not a responsible decision to legalize marijuana in any case.
Firstly, it has countless effects on human body such as it deforms perception, affects attentiveness, damaging motor skills, produces lung irritation, hastens heartbeat, causes mental problems and after combining with alcohol worsens the threats of traffic accidents. It also accelerates the risks of various cancers as it contains carcinogens and tobacco substances responsible for them. Unlike cigarette, marijuana is taken in for a longer time than normal which denotes its longer contact with lungs. Major cancer types that are found in the smokers of marijuana are lung cancer, bladder and testicular cancer. It is because it is addictive to the extinct of making a person dependent on it. Not only this, it also adds to schizophrenia and psychosis. It is particularly destructive for females and children as children trying it may become its addicts while women using marijuana get pregnancy and other female complications related to childbirth.
Secondly, it is largely associated with crime and offense. It accounts for unlawful drug trafficking in the world. And ending it means removing violence from the world. Accidents that take place by its users are also innumerable in America alone, a study says. Legalizing marijuana means legalizing crime. In this way, more people will use it including youth, teenagers, children and seniors resulting in the collapse of societal peace and harmony.
Thirdly, the expenditure on legalizing marijuana is unsuitable for the country, although seems to be profitable at the same time. It is likely the government plans to invest profit gained from the production of marijuana in social services such as building health care centers, school and more. But it is also a reality that more growth denotes more usage; while more usage signifies patient and disease multiplication which suggests that this profit would turn into a loss in no time. It also means more taxes on the public. It also means the government would grow marijuana in its fields making environment harmful for other creatures as well. Although the exact cost of legalizing it is still vague. Yet, it is obvious that the transient taxes could not deal with it. It is because marijuana is a costly drug. American society also does not want to encourage such drug that leads to dependency, risks health, hearten crime rate, heavy on the pocket and contributes in destroying the nation.
In short, marijuana has more disadvantages than advantages ranging from health issues, destructive disease like cancers, psychological defects and more. In addition, it is also the cause of crime and violence, and its production is not economic as well. Therefore, it should never be legalized.
