Two Superbowl commercials on Monday 8th February were the Doritos commercial and the Bud Light commercial. Both the commercials were featured in between the game. The Doritos commercial featured a bold ad with a touch of humor in which a baby inside a mother’s womb is seen to be reaching out for Doritos that is a father is eating while the mother is having an ultrasound. The Bud Light commercial features Rhonda Rousey and Amy Schumer. The difference between the two commercials is that the Doritos commercial does not feature any television or film celebrity, and they are anonymous actors for the commercial. However, both of the commercials feature edibles; one is for chips, and the other is beer. They have also reputed brands, and they are already popular amongst the public. (9 News)
The other commonality between the two is the use of humor. The Doritos ad is based on the element of humor which makes it a catchy advertisement. The baby in the commercial only reacts when the father moves the chips around, and it is a representation of the power of the flavor that the chips have. The ad on Bud Light features popular TV sensations and it is Rhonda Rousey’s image as a strong sportsperson, and her strength of body and character are represented through Bud Light and its effects. The commercials are especially shown with regard to Superbowl as to evoke hunger and urge of the viewers to purchase the two edibles that are shown during the game. The Doritos ad provides a fun side to the chips and makes them more desirable to the viewer and the same goes for the Bud Light ad which evokes the public to purchase something that is popular amongst TV stars and it helps give a sense of strength and power.
