Living in a city is exciting there are a number of opportunities for jobs and fast – paced entertainment. For many persons, fast paced excitement offers the thrill that comes with thrill of living in a city. The bustle and the congestion in a city is not always suitable to everyone as some persons would prefer to live in the quietness of nature and enjoy the beauty of their surroundings. The latter description is most ideal for me as I prefer to live in the quiet and serene areas. In contrast to the cities, the small communities allows for one to enjoy a quiet night or day while watching the hills and their blanket of early morning mist. For me, I enjoy a quiet, almost remote area where there is less traffic which cause pollution or which increases the likely hood of crime and violence. On the one hand cities open the doors for crime and violence. But, people who live in the small towns are less exposed to forms of violence or crime. In fact, the small towns often have fewer problems with crimes as residents are less likely to engage in violence and violent activities.
In addition, I personally prefer life in a small town as there are positive values and influences on the lives of people in and around these societies. Christianity and religion in general is often more important in a small town. In fact, high moral values and standards and even levels of ethical practices and principles cannot be maintained in cities as the beliefs and practices in towns and cities differ largely. In the small town, there is no need for a high level of competition for work as people have less competition in the world of work. In a small town there is less chances of industrialization as there are less factories than are found in the cities. Companies that produce toxic chemicals are rarely found in these small towns and therefore people are more likely to maintain better health.
Gus Stahl notes that living in large cities such as New York is appealing to one’s lifestyle as numerous buildings rise above the skylines (Stahl, 1) and leaves the people below to contend with the challenges they face because of the damage to the natural environment. In fact cities are overcrowded as such there is a higher possibility of homicides than in the rural areas. Stahl notes that in 2012, New York City accounted for over 400 murders (Stahl, 4). The number is alarming and makes it easier for me to choose to live in a rural are instead of a city.
In a small town, there is less pollution in small towns as there are fewer factories and one can find greater enjoyment in the beauty of nature and natural resources. Small town carry more recreational parks as there are less factories. In fact, one can find enlightenment and comfort from an early morning stroll through the woods. The birds and rivers remain in their natural habitat as people are less likely to drive these animals away with their sporting activities. Small towns have less tall buildings, less technological structures and activities, and less chances of destroying the natural habitat. Of course, one could easily embrace the freshness of the morning air, the natural spring water and the reduction in crime and violence that cannot be had in a city.
The technological changes in a small town are limited in many respects. Without fast pace and the stress of trying to survive, people living in towns are better able to interact with each other and develop a sense of value for the feelings of others. In fact, towns are small and as such everybody will know each person or most of the persons in the town. In essence, small towns help to build and develop close relationships with neighbors because people are better able to interact with each other. People will also develop a sense of caring for their neighbor.
In concluding, small towns are better than cities because of the beauty of nature and the lack of industrial destruction to nature. In addition, the values and ethical norms in a small town make life easier for people who believe in values. People in a small town are more warm, hospitable, and friendly and this helps to create a harmonious balance that will promote good Christian values and principles. One must learn to appreciate the lives of animals and the beauty of nature and this can only be afforded in a small town.
