The process of evidence-based practice in nursing serves as the basis for providing patient care which has been tested and proven. To this effect, therefore, there is the need for redesigning care in such a manner that it is safe, efficient and effective in regards to the needs of the patients (Stevens, 2013). Such a realization, therefore, forms the basis under which current and future nursing practices can be put into perspective. From the foregoing, therefore, nurses need to be at the forefront of trying to understand the nursing research process as a way of assisting them to develop and apply evidence-based knowledge to their daily obligations of patient care.
Nurses need to have the nursing research knowledge as it guides their professional stands. Understanding this process enables nurses to comprehend the scientific needs of the profession. It is from this process that nurses can be able to understand how an acute and/or chronic illnesses s manifests and the corrective mechanisms which can be used to address them (AACN, 2016). Addressing these conditions requires that clinical knowledge is applied and in most instances, researched information will be required to attend to the problem. Secondly, it is crucial that nurses have the nursing research knowledge as it plays a significant role in assisting them to gather information that will be applied not only in solving the medical aspect of a disease but also the social and behavioral aspects (AACN, 2016). Conducting research on these two other aspects of illnesses is an important step towards ensuring that the patient receives holistic care which will eventually result in improved patient outcomes.
Finally, nurses who have got a good understanding of the nursing research process stand a better chance in regards to furthering their education since the learning methods which they will be using will have been tested and proven to enhance the learning process (AACN, 2016). The resultant effect from this process is that knowledge gained will be useful in future care provision processes.
