Tribes have been in existence since the world was formed. The Hopi and Kogi tribal people have lived in their lands for many generations. Their main connection to these lands is corn. Through generations of dependence, the tribal people have somewhat turned the process of farming corn to a religion. The tribal people believe in spirits that live in a mountain not far from where they have settled. They believe that this spirits watch over them and provide rain. A celebration that marks the spirits return to the land and back to the mountains has been performed for many generations These tribes have put too much dependence on corn, in that, they use it to introduce a new-born to the world. In addition, the study on the Hopi and Kogi tribes shows just how important land is considered all over the world.
These sentiments are also supported by Wilma through her presentation. In her presentation, she states that tribes take years to develop cultures, which are then carried down from generation to generation. She goes on to state that, after doing this for many generations, tribes tend to look at their way of life as a religion and not a normality. Standards are converted to be religions, and none existing spirits are then formed due to years of conforming to the same practice. Oren Lyons also talks of how, due to years of conforming to unwritten rules tribe people live with certain codes rules, morals, and norms, which are passed down from generation to generation. This, he states, is the reason Indians have existed for years. According to him, they live amongst themselves and solve their issues based on their customs and spiritual beliefs. He states that most of these religions are connected to gods or rather spirits of the dead that watch over them.
