The results indicated that, after only a single treatment, the average re-epithelialization duration was 8.1 weeks for 73.3% of the patients treated with a combination of PRP and HA dressing compared to 30% of those treated with only HA dressing. The data shows that using PRP together with HA dressing and silicone for low-extremity wounds that have posttraumatic bone exposure lead to many benefits. In addition, patient satisfaction with the outcomes evidences the quality of the results of this study.
I am particularly interested with this research because I watched a close relative of mine suffer from two accident wounds, where there was bone exposure. The plastic surgeon tasked with correcting the disfiguration had a daunting task treating the loss of soft tissue at the two wounds, at some point, one of the wounds became infected. Tissue necrosis predisposes the patient to infection and proper attention must be paid to the wounded area. This research presents the use of platelet-rich plasma which can eliminate the dangers associated with exposed bone. The method employed in the experiment was valid because it used a control sample which was treated only with HA dressing. This was used as a reference point to understand the effect of the platelet-rich plasma. The results, which indicate re-epithelialization times, are also valid because they show consistency.
