The initial and foremost step is to identify that why the volunteers are needed. The volunteers in this project are included to help the current military service members and the veterans. The volunteers will help the members and veterans in moving on and with finding a new place to live and job opportunities. The volunteers will guide these members for their future life ahead. After that the number of volunteers to be recruited will be decided. As the volunteers to be recruited are needed for Hypothetical nonprofit organization and there are a number of members who need help thus a total number of 50 volunteers will be recruited for this task (Brudney, 2005). Moreover the volunteers will even be given briefing and they will be made to attend the meetings of the organization so that they knowledge of their duties and can perform them appropriately. The volunteer work will be made effective by holding discussions and exchange of information with the employees (Brudney, 2005).
Moreover, the volunteers will have to pass through a proper screening procedure where the competencies of the volunteers will be seen after which the final selection of volunteers will take place. The volunteers will then be given an orientation and appropriate training. Moreover, the volunteers will be informed about the length of the time that they will be working in the organization. Initially the volunteers will be given a probation period of two months. If they perform well during these months then their volunteer work will be continued. Furthermore, the volunteers will be given such an environment and training that they actually get what they desire in an volunteer work thus it will increase their level of participation in the organization. The volunteers will even be involved to share their views and ideas in the process of the decision-making.
Moreover, if the initial recruitment is successful then more volunteers will also be included in order to work in other departments as well. This will be a more decentralized approach. Moreover the volunteer intake and recruitment will be done by a centralized volunteer program. A specific department will be responsible for recruiting all the volunteers and dividing them into different department for the volunteer work. Moreover, a volunteer administrator will be selected. That person will be the head of all the volunteers hired in the organization. The volunteers will thus have a boss to directly report to and to discuss different matters. Leadership is important so that in case of any need or advise the volunteers can directly contact their leader. In this way the progress of the volunteers will be monitored as well and they can be better guided. The volunteers who need further training will also be recognized (Brudney, 2005).
A proper job description will be provided to the paid staff of the organization so that they may know their duties and the duties of the volunteer staff. The volunteer work that requires specialized training and the one that does not will be properly separated from each other and defined. There might even be some work, which would be done once a week or once a month. These circumstances will be clearly defined. In the job description the tile will be of volunteer work and a description of what the volunteers would do. Next the minimum qualification required for the volunteer work will be mentioned along with the time frame of the volunteer work. Moreover a detailed description will include the job description, evaluation and probation period. Moreover when the volunteer work is intact the progress will be checked regularly by the team to ensure that the volunteers are performing their job accordingly and efficiently (Brudney, 2005).
Moreover, the volunteers will be motivated so that they can do their job to the best level of their expertise. A daily contact is very important within an organization with all the employees including the volunteers. The volunteers will be targeted through contacts and through advertisement of the job. The volunteers will be also motivated in the organization by giving them the chance to advance further in the organization and to obtain a job if they show appropriate skills and motivation in the volunteer work. The competition is high now days and many companies and organizations have been hiring volunteers. The volunteers will be given a meaningful environment where they will realize that the organization is actually for the welfare of the community to its best level. This will help to keep the volunteers for a longer period of time. The volunteers will have an environment in the organization where there is teamwork and challenges. There will be achievements for the volunteers as well as excitement along with the work.
Last but not the least evaluation of the volunteers will be made in the Hypothetical Nonprofit Organization. The method used to evaluate the performance of the volunteers is ‘equivalent dollar value’. In this manner the work done by the volunteers will be recognized by the organization and their efforts will be appreciated (Brudney, 2005).
