Since I was a child, I have always considered myself to be a creative person. I have found that I work best with some type of sound in the background. I find complete silence to be distracting because I can hear other sounds like a creaking roof or an opening door and wonder what is causing it. I often listen to music using headphones when completing assignments as it helps me to focus and filters out other distractions. I am most creative in the afternoon or evenings when I have completed my other responsibilities for the day and I am relaxed. I find that I prefer to be outside rather than inside when writing or problem solving. I am most comfortable sitting or laying down, rather than standing or walking around. I am also inspired by nature, animals, and things I see or hear.
I enjoy trying new things such as cooking foreign cuisines and listening to new music because it exposes me to new flavors and experiences. My creativity is most fluid and flexible when it is not restricted by what I already know, but still connected to what I can see, touch, taste, smell, and hear. It is easiest for me to be creative regarding ideas or things in which I have an interest or excite me. I also find it helpful to collaborate with other people, allowing us to “bounce” ideas off of each other, rather than working alone. I enjoy when other people can contribute to my ideas by providing different perspectives I may not have considered.
