Pallets are very useful in the shipping system because they play a crucial role in the movement of goods. They are critical in the supply chain because they connect the distributors, retailers, logistic service providers, and manufacturers. The use of the pallet system reduces the transport costs thus promoting the efficiency of the supply chain because palletized goods moved faster. Moreover, pallets reduce the amount of time that can be used to load manually and unload shipment thus increasing output.
There are many considerations taken when deciding whether pallets are to be used for shipment of specific boxes or not because making the right choice ensures smooth running shipping process. Pallets come in different materials, sizes, and shapes; therefore, before shipping any boxes, one has to make the right choice for the specific boxes depending on the materials inside the box as well as the size (Goldberg, Pintsov, and Irwin, 2013). Moreover, the shape of the box will also determine the type of pallet used to move shipments. Hence, making a smart choice when deciding whether pallets should be utilized or not highly depends on the size, shape, and the materials inside the boxes.
In determining the placement and securing of boxes on the pallets, one has to consider the contents/products in the boxes. This is important because it will help reduce damaging and mixing of the products (Dye and Cerqueira, 2015). Besides, while placing the boxes, one has to consider the size and the weight of the specific boxes before securing them. After putting the boxes on the pallets, bandings or strapping can now be used to secure the boxes on the pallets to prevent damage or the loss of shipment from the load. Pallets are vital equipment in the shipping industry.
