Section 1
Local governments in Texas play a range of roles in the day-to-day lives of locals. Among these roles include making laws and enforcing them on the local level. For example, local governments in Texas develop and enforce laws that regulate activities permitted on public land as well as how the public uses infrastructure within a given region. In addition to this, local governments in Texas are involved in delivery of such services as public health, public libraries, and maintenance of recreational facilities. The city government of Houston, for instance, provides important assistance in the processing of birth and death certificates. Two months ago, a close family relative managed to order a birth certificate for her son online and obtained it the same day.
Section 2
I believe elections in Texas are important as they provide residents with an opportunity to choose their preferred representatives in the government. Personally, I am a registered voter and I voted in the Democratic primary in March. In the general election this fall, I plan to vote for Hillary Clinton the Democratic candidate. Most of my family members and friends will also vote for Clinton as they view her as a safer option for the Presidency compared to Republican’s Donald Trump. There are, however, some close friends who prefer Trump because according to them “he speaks for the common American”.
Section 3
I live in Texas’ second congressional district and my state representative is Delia Garza while my state senator is Bob Hall. Representing the district in the United States House of Representatives is Lloyd Poe, a Republican politician. Knowing your state senator and US representative is particular important for me as a resident of Austin especially considering the amount of help these leaders can offer residents. It is also important to know these representatives since they formulate laws and policies that govern the respective areas they represent. Based on this observation, it could be argued that failure to adequate know these leaders may lead to poor service delivery. It is, therefore, the role of the electorate to ensure their leaders represent their will by closely following their political activities. As a resident of Austin, it is my responsibility to vote for leaders that I believe will promote a functioning democracy not only at the state level but also at the federal level (Brennan 43).
Section 4
If it is proved that the UH student shot me accidentally then it is highly likely the prosecutors would decide against pressing criminal charges. However, if there is evidence indicating the incident was not accidental, the prosecutors would most likely open a criminal case against the student. As the victim in such a case and having experienced the whole incident, I would be expected to provide testimony crucial in sustaining the case in court. If the student who shot me loses the case, he or she would most likely be penalized for aggravated assault. Depending on the evidence provided, the person could face one of the following penalties: first degree felony, second degree felony, third degree felony, or class A misdemeanor.
