Immigration was my first step toward reaching my six-year goal. The map for my six-year plan is to study hard, learn the language as best I can, and to complete all aspects of the learning process to make a success of my time in the USA. One of my first impressions of New York was my visit to the New York Public Library. This building created emotions in me that would allow me to work even harder to achieve my goals. At this point, I live in a small suburb called Astoria, about fifteen minutes from Manhattan. Many regard it as the best neighborhood in New York.
I will always remember my first day on America soil, and I know that these memories would remain with me for a very long time. I was fearful at the beginning, but I was very happy I finally landed in the USA. However, I soon became nervous, and fearful again, when I looked around for a familiar face. I was also tired after my fourteen-hour flight. The time difference was also a problem. I had been trying to read English words in order to recognize the new place that I was visiting for the first time. The thought of meeting new people, living in a dormitory and new environment made my heart pound violently. I started having doubts, and it felt like I was dreaming. All of the fears and tiredness helped me to truly accept that I was in a new country. My first dinner was chocolate chip cookies from the CVS pharmacy. The cookies now represent my feeling of expectation and anxiety. The following day I entered a crowded room with 300 international students. The data was September 2012. My perfect English score on the English exam, did not guarantee effective communication. However, my new goal was to learn English well and I knew that I would do it very well if I really tried.
Our Professor took us ton an excursion to the New York Public Library on the Tuesday of that week. It is the most beautiful place I have ever been to. The ceiling in the has a fascinating image of Pometheus on it (in the Mcgraw Rotunda). The New York Public Library has a collection of books from the world over. The size of the building is also astonishing with the countless number of rooms. The library hosts a number of exhibitions and public programs, including educational classes in technology, literacy, research, and English courses for both native and non-native speakers. Every year the library opens its doors to 16 million visitors, and each year the library's website is visited by over 28 million of people from more than 200 countries.
As I mentioned, in six years from now I intend on getting there by learning English as well as I can. I hope that, within six years I would completely fluent in English. English is important to me to reach my goals as a graduate and as a multi-lingual business owner. Being a multi-lingual business owner is my ultimate goal right now. Thus, I would follow the route to get there by graduating from college, and then obtaining an MBA. An MBA will help me run an efficient business. I would love to learn the language, and to complete all aspects of the learning process to make a success of my life in the USA.
I currently live in Astoria, which is about fifteen minutes from Manhattan. I live here because it is close to Manhattan and the apartments are cheaper than in Manhattan. Astoria was originally called Hallet's Cove. The area has a countryside feel to it, and I did not like it at first. It is very enjoyable now as there are many restaurants, and especially love the Asian market.
