Good Example Of Lesson Plan Reflection Essay

Lesson planning is an important aspect of every teaching – learning experience. It can be a challenge for many teachers as they must find creative ways to meet the needs of every student that they encounter if they want to have a successful class. Lesson plans include different strategies and no teacher can successfully use the same lesson plan with different classes. So when I had the opportunity to assist with an experienced teacher to plan a lesson I was not surprised that it took some time to accomplish what I once thought was a quite simple task.
At the start, I was told of the experiences of the students and I realized that each teacher must know the abilities of their student if they want to have a successful class. When I first met the students, they seemed to be learning at the same level, but as Lori went through the different needs of each child I realized that there was much work to be done on planning a lesson. In the end though, we agreed on teaching transitional words to this groups of ESL students.
The main goal of the lesson was to get students to write and use (speak) transitional words. The teacher started the lesson by explaining transitional words as words that would allow speakers and writers to move freely from one idea to another idea easily and to put their thoughts and idea in sequential form. The students were given simple transitional words that would suit their ages to use in an activity. Some of these words were: first, then, and finally. It was interesting to listen to the students use these words and I was surprised at how easily the students grasped the activity. The lesson proceeded with the teacher dividing the class into two groups and allowed them to watch a video and follow the specific instruction on how to make an origami heart. Both groups were successful in giving the instructions and carrying out the instructions. In reflecting on the class, I realized that children are likely to learn better with activities and that they are able to follow instructions using transitional words.
